Brown BearThere are 3,500 bears

on Kodiak Island.Bear viewing is a popular

attraction.Even I have gone on a

bear expedition!

WhaleKodiak is home to five different types of whales.

PuffinThe puffin is only

one of 240 different species found on the island.

Sitka Black-Tailed DeerThis deer did not

originate from Kodiak but was brought over and introduced in 1924.

Stellar Sea LionThis marine mammal

can be seen in boat harbors.

They may live between 20-30 years.

But what about the people?

Kodiak is home to 6,334 people.

The heritage known to most residents is Alutiiq.
