Aircraft mechanic

Definition

Aircraft mechanics maintains and repairs the avionic and mechanical equipment needed to make planes and helicopters operate safely.

Characteristics

This includes repairing, inspecting and maintaining the structural, mechanical and electronic elements of the aircraft and assessing whether to replace parts. Aircraft mechanics use a wide variety of diagnostic devices, computers, hand and mechanical tools to assess and fix aircraft, and maintain aircraft standards as required by Aviation standards.

Length of study

The course last around 2 years. Additionally, some of these schools offer 2 or 4 year degrees in avionics, aviation maintenance management or aviation tech.

Advantages

Good salary and length of study which it can be short.

Disadvantages

The job may also involve standing on ladders and working at various heights and it requires a great deal of commitment usually involving long hours.The job of an aircraft mechanic is often stressful, since they need to diagnose and repair mechanical problems quickly to keep passengers safe and maintain flight schedules. They may work even under unpleasant weather and lift or pull heavy objects throughout the job.
