A CASE STUDY ON AEROPLANE MAINTAINANCE AT BUDDHA AIRLINES

1

OVERVIEW

2

1. ABOUT BUDDHA AIRLINES

• Buddha Air Pvt. Ltd was founded on 23 April 1996

• Buddha Air was granted its Air Operator Certificate of 21 January

1997 and started its operation on 11 October 1997 with one Raython

Beech 1900D aircraft

• Operates scenic Mountain Flights in regular basis for the benefit of

tourist

• Buddha Air operated to Lucknow in India with its ATR aircraft and to

Paro in Bhutan

5. TESTING AND INSPECTION

5.1 NON DISTRUCTIVE TESTS

• can be used for bolt hole scanning, crack detection, flaw detection,

pin hole detection, conductivity testing, thickness measurement, and

corrosion detection.

5.1.1 Eddy current test

• When a periodically varying magnetic field intersects an electrical

conductor, eddy currents are induced

• mainly used for thin conductive nonferrous alloys such as stainless

steel copper, brass, copper-nickel, and titanium.

• detect defects such as cracks, laps, seams, voids, and inclusions12

5.1.2 Magnetic Particle Inspection

• nondestructive method for locating cracks, laps, seams, inclusions

and other discontinuities on or near the surface of ferromagnetic

materials

5.1.3 Dye Penetrate Inspection

• widely applied and low-cost inspection method used to locate

surface-breaking defects in all non-porous materials

6. MAJOR ACTIVITIES

14

7. MAINTENANCE MANAGEMENT

7.1 Maintenance Planning

• is mainly responsible for scheduling of aircraft maintenance and

withdraw of aircraft maintenance

• controlling and complying to maintenance job order; compiling

maintenance work input received from technical record; ensuring

availability of tools and equipments; planning and advising for

maintaining minimum stock level of parts and equipments

• monitoring maintenance requirements, aircraft technical performance

and taking corrective measures and maintaining technical library15

7.2 The Maintenance Division

for the maintenance of aircraft at the hangar as well as workshops;

plans for maintenance activities and coordinates technically for

maintenance and maintenance support equipments.

16

7.3 FUNDAMENTALS GROUPS

7.3.1Hard time (HT)

preventive maintenance process in which component or engines are

periodically overhauled in accordance with the maintenance manual.

17

7.3.2 On Conditioning (OC)

a preventive primary maintenance process which periodically inspects

the parts as per maintenance schedule inspection and maintenance

manual to determine its continuation in service.

7.3.3 Condition Monitoring (CM)

It is accomplished by having appropriate means of data collection

and analysis like unscheduled removals, confirmed failures, pilot

reports, bench check and shop findings
