What is an adverb?

An adverb describes a verb, adjective, or another adverb.

Answers the questions:

❑How? The cheetah ran quickly through the forest.

❑When? Yesterday, Suzy completed all her work.

❑Where? Sam was holding his breath underwater.

The turtle walked slowly.

How did the turtle walk?

He went to the beach today.

When did he go to the beach?

My dog ran over there.

Where did my dog run?

Some adverbs are formed by adding –ly to adjectives.

Most adverbs that end in –ly tell how.

How does he fly?
