WRITING A PROSPECTUS Purpose: To market your idea to a
prospective publisher 1. Follow the directions as presented by
the publisher. 2. Pay attention to grammar, spelling, and
subtitles. 3. Create a professional product. 4. Create a working title that describes
your audience and topic. 5. Describe your conceptual or theoretical
framework. A framework describes the mental place where you think and strategize.
6. Be honest with yourself regarding time to write, personal life, work schedule.
7. Analyze your competition. What gaps in the market are you trying to fill?
8. Submit a Table of Contents and a completed chapter.
9. Requested information: proposed # of pages; scope of subject matter; intended audience and context; important features that make your book different from others on the market.
10. Submit your updated vitae.

Writing expresses you as a person. Writing makes your thinking visible. Writing increases your ability to explain a complex position to readers—and to yourself. Writing requires that you anticipate the need of your readers, thereby demonstrating your intellectual flexibility and maturity. Writing is an essential job skill.
