SMART HOME RESEARCH
SMART HOME AWARENESS
Less than half of people are immediately aware of smart home Across all countries, less than half of people are immediately aware of the smart home concept. However, once it is described and explained in more detail, awareness improves. Adding the unprompted and the prompted percentages gives the overall awareness of smart home – and across all countries it is well over 50%. Despite this relatively strong awareness, relatively few people have seen or heard about specific products related to smart home.

SMART HOME & VOICE CONTROL
Most consumers have heard of voice control – and Apple dominates Across all countries, the vast majority of consumers are aware of voice control systems. Given its dominance in the smartphone market, it is unsurprising that Apple’s Siri is the voice control system that has the greatest awareness. By contrast, Microsoft’s Cortana has the lowest awareness.

SMART HOME RESEARCH
WHEN WILL SMART HOME ARRIVE
Consumers expect to have smart homes in the medium term Very few consumers say that they already have a smart home, which is unsurprising given the lack of knowledge about the concept and the lack of understanding of how products and services can work together in the home. It also also notable that few people think they will have a smart home in the near future. Rather, it is seen as a medium term prospect, materializing in 3-5 years or longer.

But These Are Changing Everything by Accelerating Smart Home Device Adoption
Voice control is an exciting new development which will make home automation easy for the consumer – both players are working hard to link into as many products as possible, and Amazon brings the ease of links to their ecommerce platform too © 2017 CONTEXT CONFIDENTIAL // Not to be reproduced or disseminated without permission
