Jetter AC Servo Motors of the JL and JK Series
Characteristic Features of the Motors
• The JL and JK series AC servomotors are permanent magnet synchronous motors with electronic commutation. They are designed for applications with high demands on dynamic performance and positioning accuracy, while being of small dimensions and low weight.
• The standard design motors are rated at DC 320 V link voltage. All motors can be provided with a stator winding rated at DC 560 Volt (AC 3x400 Volt power supply for power electronics).
• Electrical connection of motors is made through two circular connectors, i.e. one for power supply/brake, and one for resolver or Hiperface.
• The possibility to choose between slim, long design JL, and short design JK allows optimum adaptation of motors to space conditions of the application.
• The JL and JK series of Jetterjetter AC servo motors comply with EMC and CE regulations.
Functioning of the Motors
On the circumference of the 6-pole motors NdFeB permanent magnets are mounted. This magnetic material yields a high dynamic performance due to its high remanence and field strength, and yet allows for compact motor design. The stator accommodates a 3-phase winding (star-connected). Electronic commutation, current control (sinusoidal currents) and monitoring through a resolver or Hiperface system as feedback element are carried out by means of a fast transistor inverter.
Motor Temperature Monitoring
The temperature limit of the stator windings is monitored through thermal sensors located in the winding overhangs. Thermoswitches are used as standard sensors. As an option, motors can be equipped with PTC or NTC sensors.

AC Servo Motors
Resolver
A resolver is a position transducer continuously measuring motor shaft position. The resolver evaluates the angular position of the rotor, thus supplying the information required for motor control:
• sinusoidal weighting of the current setpoint for the individual motor winding phases (stator phases)
• actual shaft speed value• actual position value per revolution• 4096 pulses per revolution
The resolver itself does not contain any electronic components. One of the remarkable features of a resolver is its rugged design which is insensitive to higher temperatures and vibrations. This makes the resolver the ideal and reliable sensor for use in harsh environments. For certain application it is a disadvantage that the number of pulses per revolution is limited to 4096 and that absolute positioning is not possible (search for reference is required).
Hiperface
The SinCos motor feedback system with the standardised High Performance Interface, Hiperface for short, is often used in digital drive systems due to its high resolution and absolute positioning capability (no search for reference required). The features of this system are as follows:
• 1024 sine/cosine cycles per revolution• absolute positioning with a resolution of 32768 increments per revolution• In theory, 4096 revolutions can be measured in single turn mode (SRM); in
practice, with DIMA 4 drives only 256 revolutions can be measured in multiturn mode.
In contrast with the resolver, the SinCos motor feedback system with Hiperface interface contains electronic components. It distinguishes itself by high thermostability and high immunity to noise.
Holding Brake
Both motor series can be supplied with a safety holding brake attached to the motor face.The brake is a DC excited electromagnetic brake which is released when power DC 24 Volt - 5 % or DC 24 Volt + 10 %) is supplied, and which brakes by spring force.The brake is designed as safety holding brake and, as a rule, is used to hold the motor shaft at standstill. The holding brake is not to be used for normal deceleration/positioning.
Speed Reducers
Due to their standardised interface, all conventional speed reducers, such as planetary gear units, can be attached to Jetter servo motors. Jetter AG offers a wide range of gearbox motors.

The order number is split into 5 sections. The first section indicates the motor type and the flange dimension. The second section represents the continuous stall torque. The third section identifies the voltage constant. The fourth section indicates the type of thermal protection. In the lastsection, any other information is specified.
The order number JL-3-0130-26-3RV is for a motor model with the following features: frame size 3, long design, continuous stall torque - 130 Ncm, voltage constant - 26 V/1000 rpm, thermoswitch, winding rated at U = DC 320 V, degree of protection - IP 65 without shaft seal, shaft without feather key, vertical connector arrangement.
Additional information for the fifth section of the order number is given by letters or in plain text following the combination of numbers.
Ordering Instructions
• When ordering a motor with a DC link voltage other than U = DC 320 V, the desired DC link voltage must be indicated separately. For a desired DC link voltage of U = DC 560 V the following ordering information must be given: JL3-0130-26-3RVM
• Mating connectors and feather keys have to be ordered separately.
• The motors JK3 through Jk7, and JL3 through JL7 are available with Hiperface.
Word of Advice on Accessories
For the operation of AC servo motors a motor cable, a resolver or Hiperface cable, a servo amplifier and possibly a speed reducer are required. Jetter AG employees would be glad to assist you in selecting the cables, the servo amplifier and a suitable speed reducer.

Sizing of Motors
• For dimensioning servo motors, always use torque. Please note that, unlike DC servo motors, dimensioning of AC standard motors is carried out using power.
• For optimum motor rating providing maximum acceleration, the load torque reduced to motor shaft should be equal to rotor inertia of the motor.
• Also for applications with insignificant dynamic loads, the load torque reduced to the motor shaft should never exceed ten times the rotor inertia.
• Gear reduction enters into calculation as significant factor since:
• Jetter AG employees will assist you in dimensioning your drives.
– load inertia is reduced by the reduction ratio raised to the second power;
– full motor power is available only with higher motor speeds.
