ABSTRAK
Pada masa ini, banyak berlaku kejadian gempa bumi di kawasan Asia Tenggara.
Walaupun pusat gempa bumi atau epicentre berates-ratus kilometer daripada
Malaysia, Negara kita masih lagi terasa akan kesan gegaran tersebut. Kita semua
telah melihat kejadian gempa bumi besar yang berlaku di Aceh pada akhir tahun
2004. Kesan daripada bencana itu sangat dahsyat yang telah menyebabkan
kehilangan banyak nyawa dan harta benda. Dewasa ini semakin banyak bangunan
pencakar langit dibina di seluruh dunia dan dijadikan mercu tanda sesebuah negara
tersebut. Sebagai contoh, Menara Taipei 101 di Taiwan, Menara Burj Khalifa di
Dubai dan tidak lupa juga Menara Berkembar Petronas serta Menara Kuala Lumpur
yang menjadi kebanggaan negara kita. Struktur bangunan terdiri daripada beberapa
komponen struktur asas seperti rasuk, tiang, lantai dan lain-lain. Setiap komponen ini
amat penting bagi memastikan bangunan tersebut kukuh dan stabil. Bagi
melengkapkan analisis struktur ini, prinsip utama seperti mengumpul, menganalisis
dan merumus data telah digunakan untuk mendapatkan kesimpulan terbaik. Ia
dicapai dengan menganalisa rekabentuk struktur bangunan yang bertujuan untuk
melepasi setiap simulasi gempa bumi yang akan dikenakan terhadap struktur
tersebut. Di samping itu, struktur ini perlu menepati kriteria yang telah ditetapkan
oleh pihak pertandingan “Introducing and Demonstrating Earthquake Engineering in
School 2013” (IDEERS 2013). Analisis ini dibuat dengan menggunakan model yang
dibina menggunakan kayu balsa dan kayu “Medium Density Fibreboard” (MDF).
Disebabkan kesukaran mendapatkan kayu MDF, kayu balsa telah digunakan dan
keputusannya dibandingkan. Selain itu, penggunaan jenis perembat yang berlainan
dalam pembinaan model ini juga telah dilakukan. Bagi mendapatkan gambaran awal
model yang akan dibina, perisian Google Sketchup Pro telah digunakan. Tidak
terdapat banyak perbezaan dari segi rekabentuk model dapat dibina disebabkan oleh
kekurangan informasi, ruang kerja untuk membina dan menguji model, masa serta
pengalaman mengenai pertandingan ini.

At this time, many earthquakes had been reported occur in Southeast Asia. Although the
epicenter of the earthquakes were hundreds of kilometers from Malaysia, our country is still
feeling the effects of the concussion. We have all seen a large earthquakes that occurred in
Aceh in late 2004. The effects of the terrible disaster that had caused the loss of many lives
and property damaged. Today, more skyscrapers were built around the world and become a
landmark of their country. For example, the Taipei 101 in Taiwan, the Burj Khalifa Tower in
Dubai and not forgetting our very own Petronas Twin Towers and Kuala Lumpur Tower
that had become the pride of our country. Building structure consists of several basic
structural components such as beams, columns, floors and others. Each of these components
is important to ensure that the building is firm and stable. To complete the analysis of this
structure, the key principles such as collecting, analyzing and formulating the data was used
to obtain the best conclusion. This is achieved by analyzing the structural design of buildings
and aimed to surpass every earthquake simulation that would be imposed on the structure. In
addition, this structure must meet the criteria set by the competition "Introducing and
Demonstrating Earthquake Engineering in the School 2013" (IDEERS 2013). The analysis is
made using the model built using balsa wood and wood "Medium Density Fibreboard"
(MDF). Due to the difficulty of obtaining MDF wood, balsa wood was used and the results
are compared. In addition, the use of different types of bracing in the construction of this
model has also been performed. To get an initial overview of the models to be built, Google
Sketchup Pro software was used. There was no significant difference in terms of the design
model can be constructed due to the lack of information, places to build and test the model,
lacking on time and the experience for this competition.
