Hyperspectral Skydome sensor – Choi and Milton (2011)(Proof-of-concept, funded by NERC)

“The world we live in is arrayed in a wide range of time-space-category mixtures. At one extreme are simply structured environments where large blocks of a few easily discriminable, homogeneous entities are arranged in an orderly fashion.

At the other extreme are complexly structured environments. In these are found very small entitities, many categories, much spatial interfingering, substantial spectral overlap between classes, and little temporal variability between classes.

The degrees and locations of environmental complexity are largely unknown except in the most general terms, yet these data are needed to plan large-area analyses with remote sensing.”

J. Everett and D.S. Simonett (1976)
