Dyess Air Force Base

Dyess Air Force Base has a total economic impact of $420,939,089 on the Big Country’s economy. This impact stems from Active Duty and Retired Military members, Military Civilians and Dependents. It also includes jobs created in the community to meet the needs of the people listed above and contracts that the base makes with local vendors. Dyess Air Force Base exists to deliver rap-id, decisive and sustainable air power to combat commanders anytime and anywhere it is needed with the B-1 bombers. Dyess is the home of the first operational B-1 bomber and is the training center for all B-1 aircrews. It is also the home of two squadrons of C-130J aircraft which provide worldwide airlift support, including the delivery of critical humanitarian aid. Our relationship with the Big Country extends beyond economics. As a team, we enjoy a long standing and rich history of mutual respect and support. The excellent community relations are evidenced in activities such as "The World's Largest Barbecue" for Dyess personnel and their families and the Veterans Day parade sponsored by the citizens of Abilene. Big Country residents have an interest in the military presence which is reflected in the wide participation in the Dyess Open House. Numerous local business people share their business expertise and experience with the military community and serve as honorary squadron commanders. Dyess personnel return their generosity by volunteering their time and services to many local charities and civic groups
