WELCOME
Dear Friends,
In context of the challenges in the global climate protection, the existence of
renewable energies has to be further enhanced. Biogas, in this regard, has to
play an outstanding and useful role. Biogas can be produced by using various
organic substrates and offers a unique opportunities of energy supply and
utilisation.
Additionally, biogas offers a great chance for rural areas in developing countries
like India. Decentralized manner of Biogas utilization in rural areas offers a
significant solution to energy demand. Linked with agricultural residue, it is a
boon to our farmers. So, increasing biogas production and utilisation has
enormous positive effects for economic development and employment in India.
Mahatma Gandhi, in his vision for India, envisaged a system of devolved, self-
sufficient communities, sustaining their needs from the local environment, and
organising income generating ventures around co-operative structures. Sixty
years on, and Gandhi's vision of Swadeshi (self-sufficiency) for India, despite
interpreted by some as a romantic and bucolic notion, is perhaps more urgent
than ever. Diminishing forests, and a burgeoning, mainly rural biomass-
dependent population of billions, necessitates a coordinated effort of rural India
to supply itself with a dependable and sustained source of energy. Biogas can
definitely be thought to cater in this context.
“Current and Emerging Trends in Indian Biogas and Bio-fertilizer Development”
has got the sole motto to promote biogas in a sustainable manner. It aims to
make the biogas production and utilisation to be efficient and effective. It also
would like to depict that biomass production must not lead to conflicts with food
production, the right of food and the protection of environment and nature.
Therefore, it is especially important and valuable to exchange on the recent
progress in biogas production and utilisation on a world scale.
The programme of this convention, which meets these high requirements
welcomes you. You as participants of this convention will receive fruitful
impulses for your own actions. You will learn about, reflect and evaluate other
developments.
Yours sincerely,
Prof. V. K. Vijay Dr. A. R. Shukla Gaurav Kedia
