The Honors Program in Engagement & Scholarship
(HOPES) challenges students who want a stimulating
academic experience, caring faculty, collaborative
learning, and creative thinking. These courses allow
students to earn an academic concentration or minor
in Honors.
Students participate in lively seminar discussions,
conduct independent study and research, produce
and present an advanced-level writing project (minor
only), participate in community service projects, and
earn recognition for their achievements.
MISSION
The Honors Program in Engagement & Scholarship (HOPES) will enhance the scholarly empowerment of students and encourage active citizenship, leadership, and devotion to the common good.
GOALS
1. To promote critical, reflective, and independent thinking
2. To ensure a commitment to community awareness, involvement, and service
3. To foster excellence in verbal and written communication skills
4. To cultivate awareness of global issues and cultural diversity

Katie Abrahamson
Received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in graphic design, and a Bachelor of Arts in photography with a minor in marketing and a concentration in Honors. Her Honors thesis was entitled The Illegibility of Logos in Metal Music.
Rachel Alfaro
Received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in crafts with a minor in marketing and a concentration in Honors. Her Honors thesis was entitled The Disconnect Between the LGB and T.
Christina Beck
Received a Bachelor of Science in communication disorders with a minor in deaf and hard of hearing, and a concentration in Honors. Her Honors thesis was entitled Parental Satisfaction with Information Provided by Health Care Professionals on Feeding Methods for Infants with Cleft Lip/Palate.
Alexander Buchholz
Received a Bachelor of Science in biology and chemistry with a concentration in Honors. His Honors thesis was entitled Time Interval Profiles of Caffeine Concentrations Extracted from Human Saliva Analyzed by Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectroscopy.
Nina Coster
Received a Bachelor of Arts in music education with a concentration in Honors. Her Honors thesis was entitled Paul Hindemuth’s use of Folk Song in Der Schwanendreher.
Gabrielle Damschen
Received a Bachelor of Arts in music with a minor in French and concentrations in Honors and vocal performance. Her Honors thesis was entitled Seit ich ihn gesehen: A 19th-Century Poet’s View of a Woman’s Life and Love.

Received a Bachelor of Arts in music with concentrations in psychology, saxophone performance, and Honors. Her Honors thesis was entitled The Impact of the William Albright Sonata. Abigail Graves
Received a Bachelor of Science in elementary education with minors in psychology and deaf and hard of hearing, and a concentration in Honors. Her Honors thesis was entitled Leadership Development at Minot State University.
Ismail Hassan
Received a Bachelor of Science in medical laboratory science with a minor in chemistry and a concentration in Honors. His Honors thesis was entitled Understanding the implementation of the Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative and how Lactoferrin (milk ingredient) with or without iron works in preventing yeast infection.
Noriya Shahadat
Received a Bachelor of Science in criminal justice with a minor in international business and a concentration in Honors. Her Honors thesis was entitled Possible Outcomes of a United States Withdrawal from the United Nations.
