In the leisure-time sector and especiallyin caravans, where the onboard battery isalready available as energy storage, solar
technology is the optimal supplement forthe onboard power supply.
Setup and function :A solar power system has a very simplesetup. One or several solar modulesare mounted on the roof. From there, aconnecting cable first runs to the solarcharge controller inside the caravan andthen to the already existing onboardbattery. During light irradiation, the solar
cell generated power is supplied to theconnected onboard battery via the solarcharge controller. This process continuesuntil the controller recognises a fullycharged battery and interrupts the powerflow. By this, the control ensures optimalbattery charging at all times.
By the way, all other charging possi-bilities already existing at the battery(charger, motor charging) will remainunchanged.
Which solar power systemfor which applicationAt BTTNER ELEKTRONIK, we only sellsolar modules proven and tested for many
years and especially suitable for mobileapplication. Some manufacturers of solarmodules only offer a limited guarantee
when modules are used in caravans. Wedo not offer these types of modules, onprinciple. All attached and surface-mounted parts must also be suitable forthe rough application in caravans withoutany restriction. Therefore, we use waterpressure resistant cable ducts and high-quality brackets of polyurethane (not ABS)with an extremely long service life. Thesolar control was also especially designedfor caravans and offers some importantadditional functions such as gel / acid /AGM changeover or charging of a second
battery.
All solar modules offered by us are state-of-the-art products. Depending on themodule type, there are also very specificadvantages. These should be taken intoconsideration depending on the setupand application conditions. For furtherinformation please see page 4 !

The 20 W starter set is optimal foruse in mobile campers or caravans foryear-round battery maintenance and for
operating a caravan manoeuvringsystems. For greater power and to com-pensate for smaller consumers, the40 W starter setor the 75 W startersetis the ideal solution.
As all our solar complete systems, theBASIC LINE sets are ready to installwith adhesive roof bracket, cable duct and
a high-quality solar charge controller. Bothsystems stand out due to their low weightand high-quality workmanship at an veryaffordable starter price.
Decision-making aidsWhich solar system corresponds bestwith your individual requirements ? For asimpler presentation, we introduced sym-
bols and assigned them to the pertinentsystem. It will thus be very easy for youto make the right decision.
Developed specifically for cara-vans: Solar modules for caravans are
subject to different stresses than those forresidential systems ! For example, mobileapplications require outlets to be resistantto hydrostatic pressure (airstream) andsoldered connections to be specificallycarried out to withstand vibrations whiletravelling. Also, the framework structurerequires a special design to compensate forany potential distortions and developinglifting forces.
Suitable for marine use: The in-dividual components are saltwater-
resistant.
Low structural height: The solarmodule is set either directly onto
the roof surface without any substructure(FLAT LINE ) or it is adhesively bondedwith a flat mount ( BASIC LINE ).
40-cell design: Solar module witha high number of cells to compen-
sate for performance losses due to directbonding.
Walk-on modules: Solar modulescan be walked on if they are glued on
over the entire surface.
Low weight: Weight benefits versusother solar systems of identical per-
formance.
Small surface / high performance:Extremely high performance due to
selected raw material.
Performance benefits with partialshading: More resistant to partial
shading due to longitudinal strip technology.
Performance benefits in unfa-vourable weather conditions: Test
winner best solar system in unfavourableweather and with partial cloud cover ( Reise-mobil International Issue 10/2012)
Removable solar module: Once thevehicle is sold, the solar module
can be removed from the basic mount andreinstalled on a new vehicle.

Solar systems are among the most pru-dential purchases regarding caravans. Solarpower is free of maintenance and charge. It is generated without noise and turnsa caravan into a leisure vehicle that nolonger is dependent on the mains. Solar
systems ofBTTNER ELEKTRONIK
areeasy to mount and simply connected to theexisting onboard battery.
Complete solar systems
All complete systems are supplied withsuitable spoiler profiles and a solid roofduct. These components from high-qualityPUR plastic are protected against harmfulUV radiation and extremely weather-proof.The solar modules are affixed to the spoilerprofiles. This allows the system to be takendown when you change your vehicle. Thefixture itself is affixed to the roof with aspecial adhesive set, which has beentested and approved by the TV (GermanTechnical Inspection Agency). The adhesivemethod has the advantage that no holeshave to be bored into the roof.

MT Complete Solar Systems Mono-crystalline solar modules have been used for many decades. Due to this
long practical experience they are one of the most long-lived energy sourcesavailable. All modules have a robust aluminium frame and are protected againstweather influences with special glass. To achieve the full output in all applicationareas, these modules must be ventilated from below. The bracket to be affixed
with adhesive will ensure this. The installation height of approx. 7 cm shouldbe taken into consideration. In most cases, however, this is not any higherthan an existing standard skylight. When planning it should also be observed
that any already mounted components (SAT etc.) do not shade the solar plate.
These modules provide particularly high efficiencies even inunfavourable weather conditions due to the novel MultiCelltechnology where 72 solar cells are used on one module.
MT CIS Complete Solar Systems One of the most outstanding features of CIS solar modules is their absolutelyhigh-quality finishing. This module series also has a robust mounting frame andspecial glass on the back. This and the slightly bigger surface area are the reasonsthat these modules are slightly heavier than conventional standard modules. An advantage is that due to their longitudinal strip technology they react a lot less
sensitive to partial shading than any other module type. Especially inmobile applications the energy yield is a lot higher since it is not alwayspossible to prevent depending on the location that branches of trees, a
mounted roof-case or the SAT equipment partially shade the solar modules. The installation height of 7 cm should also be considered here. This, however, should not create any problems.
MT Power Line Complete Solar Systems MT POWER LINE solar modules achieve an extremely high efficiency level. This allows for a great solar output even with restricted space conditions. For developing their full performance in all areas of application, modules areto be ventilated from below which is ensured by adhesive, TV-approvedsolar mounts.
This range of solar modules is also produced in accordance with ourstringent quality standards to guarantee permanent use on the caravan
even in harsh conditions. The anodised housing frame is particularly robust, while the front glass is specially hardened and so highly pervious to light.
As a result, the modules are optimally protected even against hail and highwinds. As with all complete systems, the POWER LINE series is supplied as
a set with all accessories required for the installation.
MT Ultraflat Complete Solar Systems These solar modules can be affixed directly onto the vehicles roof withadhesive. We only produce these solar modules with a higher number of cells(40 cells instead of the conventional 36), so that there is no output loss evenin Southern holiday regions where due to the vehicle insulation the heat canonly be discharged poorly and therefore the solar output drops.
This series is mostly used when clearance heights must be observed and/
or it should be possible to walk on the modules. The modules areavailable in two versions: As FG with solid glass surface suitablefor all level roof surfaces as well as FL, which is equipped with a Teflon
foil and therefore can be bent slightly in longitudinal direction ( 30 mmmaximum) and affixed to slightly curved roof surfaces.

MT Automatic dual chargersMT Automatic dual chargers Like all other devices by Mobile
Technology, the chargers Made inGermany are also precisely adjusted totheir range of applications.
Optimal performance is ensured by:
latest IUoU charging characteristics
long-time activating
AGM/gel/acid battery changeover
This also ensures monitor-free chargingwith automatic battery regeneration incase of long standing times or when thecaravan is stored in winter.
To increase the charging output all devicescan be switched in parallel to already
existing chargers and are protected againstshort circuit, overload, reverse polarisationetc. A voltage stabilisation is integratedand ensures sufficient charging output
even when the mains supply is weak orunstable. The operating unit with displayfunctions and optional night mode canbe removed and fitted in the vehicle as
remote control (cable extension optionallyavailable).
From the series MT 1240 the chargershave an integrated second main chargingoutput. This enables charging of batterybanks being operated separately. Theseunits also have a 3-step switch to reducethe output rating on parking grounds withweak fuse protection.
A temperature sensor for optimal chargingin all climate zones is available for all
MT chargers (optional). When usingAGM and gel batteries, this sensor isrecommended on principle by the batterymanufacturers.
What charging performance
is necessary?
The greater the charging performance, the quicker the onboard battery isrecharged. Chargers that are too smalldo not achieve a full recharge in caseof short downtimes.
If you have to recharge 90Ah with a10 Ampere charger, youll need at least9 hours provided that it does notconsume power simultaneously. If youhave 20 Ampere charging current,
you can fully recharge in only 4.5 hours.
As a guideline, a minimum of 10 percent of the Ah capacity should bedefined as charging current.

MT inverters: 230 Volt onboardMT inverters: 230 Volt onboard MT inverters are Made in Germanyand ensure an optimal supply of 230 Voltsalways and everywhere.
Inverters of the SI model range operate withpure sine wave voltage and are thereforealso suitable for the most sensitiveconsumers (e.g. coffee machines by Jura,Saeco or Senseo etc.). The MT 300 SI isalready sufficient to operate TV/SAT, videounits, DVD, computers or battery chargers. For larger consumers, inverters with1000 watts or 1500 watts are available.
All units are capable of handling overloadsand are equipped with whisper fan and allmonitoring and switchoff functions. Theoperating unit with display functions can
be removed and mounted in the vehicle asremote control. An integrated load detec-tion switches the units to power savingmode when not used and, if required, alsocompletely off.
The large inverters have an optional mainsswitchover function. These units detectwhen external shore power is available andfully automatically switch over. As long as
shore power is available, the inverter isswitched off and shore power is suppliedto the interior sockets. When shore poweris no longer available, the inverter can bestarted and the same sockets are nowsupplied with inverter power.
All inverters are supplied ready for connec-tion with plug and battery cable (1.2m).
Air-conditioning during drivingAir-conditioning systems have an extremelyhigh power consumption. For this reason, avery powerful inverter must be used. The
appropriate set, including control electronicsthat ensure the inverter receives sufficientpower and is switched off in time to pre-vent the total discharge of the batteries, isavailable on request.
Which inverter should I use?
Inverters produce an AC voltage of230V out of 12V onboard voltage.Commercial end devices therefore canbe operated via the normal onboardbattery.
Inverters are available in various outputsizes, and depending on the rated input, the appropriate inverter must be
selected.
For smaller devices such as TVs or SAT
receivers, theMT 300 SI can suffice.
Coffee machines or hairdryers mayneed a more powerful device, depending on the rated input.

Onboard supply batteriesWhich battery is suitable for which use ?Normal starter batteries are not designed for cyclical loads and notrecommended as onboard batteries. Cycle-proof batteries are idealfor the loads generated during discharging/charging operation.
We distinguish between batteries with bound electrolyte as gelor AGM batteries and the classic liquid/acid batteries. Gel and AGMbatteries are leak-proof and completely maintenance-free over theirwhole service life. Both types of batteries are highly cycle-proofunder the required charging conditions. Gel batteries can even be
discharged deeply for a short period of time, always under thecondition that they are immediately recharged. AGM batteries ofthe same size have a slightly higher output and can deal with evenvery high charging/discharging currents for a short period of time.On principle, all cycle-proof batteries are suitable for solar systems.
Higher battery capacity If you want to expand your battery capacity, you could just connectadditional batteries in parallel. The pre-requisite is that the batteriesare of the same design (gel, AGM or liquid acid) and capacity. Also,no old battery should be connected to a new one. Additionally,it should be checked whether the existing charger is sufficient forthe higher capacity.
The correct charger In order to ensure that onboard batteries reach the expected cycleand service life, the charging must be optimal. When changing to adifferent battery type, it must be checked if the charger is designedfor this technology or if the output is sufficient or should beincreased. Output tables and charger that can be switched to allbattery types can be found on page 6.

The onboard battery is responsible for supplying power when the cara-van is not provided with shore power. Not the easiest of tasks given theincreasing number of electricity consumers operated on board and thelimited battery capacity available. It is therefore all the more important
that the onboard battery is quickly and optimally charged on short drives, and withthe right characteristic for longer drives. In practice, however, this is not so easy
since the onboard battery is charged not directly by the generator, but in parallel bythe starter battery via a cut-off relay. As a consequence, the charging current iskept to a minimum and the voltage is all wrong. The result is that the charging pro-cess takes an unreasonably long time or proves inadequate even on longer drives, because the generator cannot provide the voltage level required for gel or AGM bat-teries. This is remedied by theMT IOUO charger booster. Depending on the ver-
sion, it takes 25 amp or 45 amp from the starter battery, takes this output to therequired voltage level (battery type adjustable) and so guarantees quick and safecharging of the onboard batteries.

MT Display and Switch Programme0
Nothings more ideal than when everything in the camper van orcaravan can be controlled and monitored from a central point. Theinverter is switched on with the press of a button, all fluid levelsare checked at a glance. How much power does the solar systemprovide and what about the capacity of the onboard battery ?
The MT display and switch programme from BTTNER-ELEKTRONIK lets you set up your very own, individual controlcentre that can later be upgraded where necessary. This allows youto check the output of the solar power system with one glanceat the MT solar remote display, while the battery computerMT 4000 iQ shows how much power is left in the onboardbatteries. This device should interest even those who already owna camper van or caravan featuring a range of level indicators andswitches. Contrary to the often integrated indicators of the caravan
manufacturers, the battery computer calculates the exact fill levelof the onboard battery (in Ah and %) and can therefore tell youexactly when the lights will go out.
For mobile use made in GermanyAll displays were specially developed for use in camper vans andcaravans. The LCD thermometer, for instance, not only shows thecurrent inside and outside temperatures, but also stores the lowestvalue. An important aspect for all who are out and about in theautumn and winter months and want to gauge whether and whenthe septic tank is about to freeze up.
All measuring devices were designed as installation units(installation frame supplied), have an illuminated display, and arecompatible with the switch and fuse programme.
Installation devices that can be plugged into any MT Duo solar con-troller using the plug-in cable (5m) supplied. Without complex cab-ling, you can see at a glance how efficient the solar system is at anygiven moment: Fitted with LEDs, theMT Solar Remote Display I dis-plays the current output of the solar system incrementally in per cent(10 100%).MT Solar Remote Display II with large LED display andmany additional functions.

Where possible, select a tank sensorthat is fitted into the tank from the top especially if the tank is inside, as lateraldrilling and sealing is always risky.
All MT tank sensors are suitable for plastic
and metal tanks. The tank electrode hasstainless steel rods extending into the tank. These can be shortened to the appropriatetank depth, as can the two flexible sensorswhich can display fill levels up to a depth ofover one metre.
