Blank Preparation1. Cuttheblanksabout1/8"longerthantheBrassTubesto allowfor“blow-out”orholeelongation.Maintaingrain orientationofthetwoblanksforturningbyplacingan “x”oneithersideofthecutline.

2. Drilltheblankswitha5/16"drillbitataspeedof900 to1200RPM.

3. PolishtheBrassTubeswith220gritsandpapertoremove oxidationandroughentheTubesforbetteradhesion.This canbedonebyhandorbychuckingtheminadrillpressor portablehanddrill.

4. PreparetogluewithmediumCA(cyanoacrylate)glueor two-partfastdryingepoxy.

5. ApplythegluetotheoutsideofoneBrassTubewithaliberal amountaroundtheendthatisinsertedfirst.Donotapply gluetotheinsideoftheblank,asthiswillcausetheglueto getinsidetheBrassTubeandruinit.

6. InserttheBrassTubewithatwistingmotionintotheblank untiltheTubeisequidistantbetweenbothendsofthe blank.Wipeoffanyexcessglueontheendsoftheblank. Allowthegluetodry.GluethesecondBrassTubeusing thesamemethod.

7. Usingabarreltrimmer,disk,orbeltsander,trimtheends oftheblanksuntilyoucanjustseethebrightbrassends oftheTubes.Thefacesoftheendsmustbeperpendicular totheBrassTubesandparallelwitheachother.Itis imperativetomatchthelengthofthetrimmedblanksto theoriginallengthoftheBrassTubesandthattheinsides oftheBrassTubesarecleanandfreeofanyglue.

Turning the Blanks1. Assembletheblanksonthemandrelwiththebushings placedasshowninthepictureabove.Keepthegrain orientationoftheblanksinlinewhenmounting.Each bushinghasastepthatisdesignedtobeinsertedinto theBrassTubesforstabilitywhileturning,astheinner diameterofthetubesislargerthanthemandrel.Note thatallofthebushingsarethesamesize. Note:EitherWoodSpacersorextraBushingsmaybeused tofilltheextraspaceonthemandrel.

2. Tightenthetailstockandthentightenthemandrelnutthat holdstheblanks.Donotover-tightenthetailstockormandrel nutasthismaycausethemandreltoflex,causingthe blankstogooutofround.

3. Turntheblankstothedesiredshape,makingsurethat thesurfacesnexttothebushingsareturnedtothesame diameterasthebushings.

4. Afterturning,sandthesurfacesinprogressivestepsof 220,400,600,and1000grit.Ifahigherfinishisdesired, micromeshsandpapermaybeused.

5. Applythefinishofchoiceandpolish.

6. Removetheblanksfromthemandrel,keepingtheblank orientationandgrainpatternsinline.

Perfume Pen Bushing Set

AssemblyReadtheassemblyinstructionscompletelybeforeassembly.

1. PressaCapintotheendoftheUpperTube.Makesure youchoosetheappropriateendofthetubetopreserve thepatternorgrainmatchforyourpen.

2. PresstheotherCapintotheendoftheLowerTube.Make sureyouchoosetheappropriateendofthetubetopreserve thepatternorgrainmatchforyourpen.

3. InserttheWickintotheLowerTube.

4. Makeapressingblockbydrillinga5/16"diameterholeinto a3/4"thickpieceofscrapwood.

5. InsertthelongendoftheTipintothepressingblock.Press theTipintotheopenendoftheLowerTube,usingthe pressingblocktoputpressureontheflangeandprevent damagetothethinTipwhenpressingintoplace.

6. CarefullystretchtheO-Ringovertheexposedendofthe Tip.RolltheO-RingdownthesideoftheTipuntilitsettles intotheIndentationaroundtheflange.

7. ThreadtheCenterCouplerontotheTipsothatitfitssnugly againsttheO-Ring.AlignthegrainoftheUpperandLower blanks.Oncetheblanksarealigned,pushtheUpperTube byhandontotheCenterCoupleruntiltheUpperTubeis firmlyseatedandwillnottwistorfallout.Carefullyunscrew theCenterCouplerandUpperassemblyfromtheTipand finishpressingtheCenterCouplerintoplace.

8. InserttheApplicatorintotheTip,narrowendfirst.

9. FillthePerfumePenbydippingtheApplicatorinto perfumeforapproximatelyoneminute.TheApplicator maybelooseintheTipbeforefilling,butwillexpandto fitwhenmoistened.

10.TocleantheApplicator,removetheApplicatorfromthe Tipandsoakinisopropylalcohol.
