3D scanning, also known as 3D capture or 3D reconstruction, is a technology to capture the world around us in its 3 dimensions, the output being a 3D file. Some technologies leverage photography, others require depth sensors like a structure or a kinect device.

This amazing technology is rapidly getting into the mainstream and available on our mobile devices, letting anyone capture the world as it is: in 3D. What follows is a review of various 3D scanning technologies with results on Sketchfab. Each preview is clickable and opens a 3D model.
