• Congress is made up of the Senate and the House of Representatives

• Congress writes and passes the laws for the nation

• Each House (Senate and House of Representatives) can reject each other’s bills

• Congress has the power to declare war on another country

• Some of the laws that are passed are taxes

• President can veto (reject) a bill or law that has been passed by Congress

• President consults with his Cabinet to appoint new judges

• President can pardon criminals who have been found guilty

• When the President is making tough decisions he asks his Cabinet for advice

law, the Judicial Branch listens to many opinions and makes a decision

• The highest court in the United States is the Supreme Court which decides controversial legal issues

• The Supreme Court can declare a new law unconstitutional or illegal

• The decisions of the Supreme Court must be followed across the USA
