made it out of the home, but the 37-year-old son ran back into the home for unknown reasons. Later the son jumped out of the second story window where he landed on his head, according to firefighters. The son would later die from his injuries.

arrived, the sheriff said.”
“After firefighters controlled the blaze, they found Rogers dead inside the house. Her husband escaped the fire
uninjured, Zimmerly said.”

Donald Kerns, 77■ 64 West 4th St - 09:22■ Died of Smoke Inhalation ■ Bystanders told firefighters they thought someone was on the 2nd
floor. Firefighters broke down the locked front door and used a ladder to access the 2nd floor to conduct a primary search, but didn't find anyone.
■ "We try to do it as quickly as we can and go into the next room ... it's strictly by feel usually," Gallagher said, noting heavy smoke often prevents a visual inspection.
■ After the primary search, firefighters took a water hose back in to fight the fire as they conducted a more detailed secondary search, which is when they discovered Kerns' body in apartment 2 where heavy fire had been, according to the report.

"They were Covered in Soot. Soot in the Mouth, Soot in the Nose."
■ The Children's Father was Already at Work when the Fire Started.
"One said, 'I was downstairs.' He was upstairs and he couldn't come down because the fire had started up the stairs and his mother
was upstairs with him."

"(Firefighters) searched the bedroom first, but were pushed back out by intense heat," Ralph said. "There was zero visibility. They knocked the fire down from the outside, hit the door, went back in and found him. They got him out. He was
pulseless, not breathing, so they initiated CPR. Our squad then transported him to Marion General Hospital.“
■ FF’s did find a smoke detector in the house, but it did not have a battery in it.
