J O H N F I T Z R O G E R S : Once Removed for Two Percussion
Based on the Spanish legend Zorro, a new quartet by Brazilian composer Clarice Assad opens this program of exotic storytelling. Sierra’s Fuego de Angel transports audiences with its swinging Puerto Rican rhythms, and Lansky’s hypnotizing Travel Diary, performed by the acclaimed Meehan/Perkins Duo, guides listeners through a meditation on travel.

Hartke’s Quartet, inspired by surrealist Joan Miró’s painting A Dutch Interior is filled with brilliantly colorful harmonies. Lansky’s work welcomes the return of O’Riley and makes a stunning marriage of two pianos and percussion.

A PERFORMANCE LIKE NO other Bravo! Vail has ever done. Scored for 9 to 99
percussionists across a vast outdoor space, Inuksuit, composed by Grammy Award-winner John
Luther Adams, was described by The New York Times as “the ultimate environmental piece.” Presented in Maloit Park with 66 percussionists, Inuksuit provides a unique and individualized listening experience. As the soundscape builds you walk through the piece visiting small collections of players or lone instrumentalists who, as they move to various performing stations, weave apparent randomness into a stunning cohesion.
Inuksuit is a coproduction between Bravo! Vail and the Aspen Music Festival and School.
