Robert has worked for ELCA congregations since 1997 beginning as the Director of Christian Education and Youth Ministries at St. Stephen in Williamsburg, VA. While at St. Stephen he was also involved with the college ministry at William and Mary. While working on his Master of Sacred Theology and doctorate at Boston University School of Theology, Robert was a member at Zion Lutheran Church in Plymouth, MA and help establish a neighborhood ministry program working with the local businesses. He was also work with Zion to move a historical building to the church’s property in order to create a community center.
Pastor Lewis worked as the Director of Youth and Family Ministry at Emmanuel in Bethesda, MD for 8 years before being called as the Senior Pastor at Messiah in Alexandria, VA.
Community Involvement:
Pastor Lewis is involved with local area ministries in Alexandria, VA such as United Community Ministries and Offender Aid and Restoration. He has recently reached the end of his term on the board of the National Institute of Business and Industrial Chaplains, where he also previously serviced as president of the board. In addition, Robert has been a voting representative on the Commission of Ministries in Specialized Settings (now known as COMISS Network) since 1999. He has served as a member of a hospital ethics committee and President of a Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) advisory committee. Robert is currently in the process of becoming a member of the Fairfax County Community Chaplain Corps.

While on the board of NIBIC, Robert led a small committee in rewriting the qualifications of the National Certified Chaplain. He also served on a task force with the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary studying the feasibility of endorsing qualified civilian chaplains to work with the military chaplains.
In addition, Robert has been a voting representative on the Commission of Ministries in Specialized Settings (now known as COMISS Network) since 1999. Participated as Assistant Minister in Holy Cross Lutheran church and helping Pastor Douglas Jones in the worship services. And actively involved in Holy Cross activities.
Community Involvement: IN the last two years actively participated sponsoring and fund raising events to support elderly women who are below the poverty line in providing clothing and shelter with the support of local organization and philanthropists. And took up a program adopting 10 more girl Childs to support their education. And conducted programs for Evangelists and Pastors providing support financially and also helped in establishing small churches. Working for an Nonprofit Christian Organization called EXODUS which was founded and established by me being the Executive Director, Which works for the Poor and downtrodden especially between Elderly Women and Widow’s, Girl Child Education etc. This is based in Southern part of India which is closely working with
