It is important for type to support and compliment our communications. Three main typefaces have been chosen to represent MMUnion. These are used in conjunction with each other. They can also be accompanied by one of our accent typefaces.
Alegre, a compact sans serif font, is strong and clean; a headline font to be used across all our communications. It’s voice is confident & succinct. Uppercase only.
Nexa, a slab serif font characterised by a monotone stroke weight and heavy square-cut serifs, is bold, sturdy & expressive. Only to be used in it’s lowercase form and occasionally uppercase. Never titlecase.
Gotham Rounded is clean, minimal, fuss free and a bit cheeky. Gotham Rounded can be used as a body font or for select text in all lowercase or all uppercase.
The 3 distinct moods of our typefaces work together to create an energetic and upbeat message.
As well as mixing typefaces we also like to play around with their weights.

MMUNION CORE ELEMENTSACCENT FONTS
Accent fonts are used to compliment or effect our core typefaces.
These accent fonts must be used with discretion to enhance the message created by our core typefaces.

Gotham Narrow Book is used as a body font for our more serious comms. For example, advice centre booklets, annual reports, student voice reports.
It’s tone is confident, friendly, assertive and complements our core fonts. Gothan Narrow has a more serious tone than Gothan Rounded, but they sit well together and help unite our overall voice.

STUDENT ACTIVITIES
Student Activities needs to be updated. Whilst some elements have been updated on an adhoc basis, on the whole it currently contines to use oldstyle design elements/fonts.

how to raise money
Fund-raising is the art of getting money for specific projects or club/society activities. There are many ways of raising money, including: membership subscriptions, seeking donations, obtaining grants, organising fund-raising events, running lotteries, obtaining sponsorship.
The fundraiser must know:What makes club/society worthy of support how to tell people about the value of their cause how to identify various people and organisations that might donate to them how to reach these potential supporters how to get an immediate and helpful response.
Fund-raising ideas: - Social eveningsA good way to raise money is to organise something people will enjoy. They pay an admission charge for an evening’s entertainment and the profits go to the club or society. Success depends on having a group of volunteers willing to organise the evening, and a good marketing and promotional campaign to make sure lots of people turn up. Some examples of these social functions include: Quiz nights, Casino evenings, Race nights, Discos, Theme nights, Celebrity nights, Seasonal Balls, Film showings, Trips to local attractions..
- Sponsored activitiesThe most important requirement is a supply of friends, relatives and work colleagues prepared to pay anything from 10p to £10 for every mile walked, every hour bounced or skipped, every length or lap swum or run, and so on. The revenue depends on the numbers competing and their powers of persuasion!
- 100 ClubA typical format is for 100 people to pay £1 each month into the club/society account. Each participant is given a number and a draw is held each month for cash prizes of £10 or £20, with larger prizes every three months. After allowing for administrative costs, the surplus can be about £400. This sounds easy, but there is plenty of work to be
done to reach this target. Vary the details to suit yourselves. If 50 people take part, you have a 50 Club, and so on. The prizes should vary too.
- lotteriesThe Lotteries Act refers to lotteries promoted on behalf of the societies. In the Act, a ‘society’ is defined as any association or group formed neither for private gain nor for any commercial undertaking. Clubs and Societies usually fall into this category. Consider the following:
The lottery needs to satisfy more than just the opportunity to win money. The participants must understand its purpose. The lottery has to be promoted effectively. The presentation needs to be attractive and professional. You need the correct balance between the prizes offered, the price of the tickets and the number of winning tickets. A good balance must be struck between small prizes (to maintain interest) and the larger ‘jackpots’. Tickets must be seen to be properly prepared so that the sellers and purchases have trust in the scheme. Cash received must be carefully balanced against the tickets issued and the unsold tickets that are returned. If you advertise a big prize, you must provide it, even if you do not collect much money.
MarketingIdentify and understand the product, membership or service or event you are offering. What are the particular benefits and attractions of your activity? Does it provide friendship and social opportunities? Do you offer coaching
