It’s Our Time It’sourtime!It’sourtimetoreflectuponourcommunitysupport.Withoutthisfoundationandthesupportofourcommunitywewouldn’tbenumberoneinthestate.Weareonlyasstrongasoursupportgroupsallowustobe.Westriveeverydaytobe-comebetterandtoexcelinwhatwedobest.Howdidwegetfromthethirdinthestatetobenumberone?Ittookhardwork,longnights,andearlymorningstocreatesuchasuccessfulchapter.Buildingalegacyhasalsobroughtustobenumberone.Inordertokeepupourchapter’sgreatworkwemusthavestrongunderclassmenwhoarewillingtostepupandhelp.It’sourtimetohelpothersinourcommunitywhilehelpingour-selves.Aswecontinuethroughoutthesummer,wehopetobetterourselvesandourcommunity.

Thesmelloffreshflowers,thesightofFFAbannersflappinginthewind,theroaroftractorsarriving,andthesightof300elemen-tarykidsvisitingtheFFAagriculturalfacilitiesarejustafewofthethingsyouwillexperienceattheWebbervilleFFA’sAGstravaganza.TheWebbervilleFFAheldtheirannualAGstravaganzaonMaysecond.Onceagainitwasamagicalexperienceforallmembers,guests,andstudentsthatattended.Thiseventisapartofthechap-ter’sFoodforAmericaprogramandalsoactsasamemberrecruit-mentactivity.ThepurposeoftheFoodforAmericaprogramistoteachstudentswheretheirfood,fiber,andfuelcomesfrom.“It’salwaysapleasuretohosttheschoolcommunityaswellasthegreaterWebbervillecommunitytotheagfacilities.TheFFAmembersreallyrosetotheoccasionanddidanoutstandingjobeducatingothers,”saidadvisorColleenScott-Keiser.ThechapterputsauniquetwistonAGstravaganzabyaddingnewstationseachyear.Thisyeartherabbitandwindturbinestationswereadded.Atthewindturbinestationkidswereabletomaketheirownwindturbine.Members’achievementsarealsodisplayedatAGstravaganzatoguaranteethatallmembersarerecognizedfortheirsuccesses.“AGstravaganzawasahugesuccessonceagain.Itisgreattoseeallthekidslearningnewfactsaboutagriculturewhilehavingfun.Thisisagreateventtowrapuptheyear,showcasingallthemem-bers’knowledgeandachievements,”saidchapterpresident,EmilyHouse.Thiswasthe5thyeartheWebbervilleFFAhostedAGstravaganza.Theeventcontinuestoeducatestudentsacrossthedistrictandshowcasesthechapter’sandstudents’achievements.Thiseventhasnowbeenrecognizedatthestateandnationallevel.

#1IntheStateOnWednesdayofthe85thannualstateconvention,theWebbervilleFFAChap-terwasnamedthebestchapterinthestate.Theyarenowrankednumberoneamongthe95activeFFAchaptersthatmakeupthestateassociation.Thechap-terwasawardedthisbecauseoftheirinnovativewaysandqualityplanofactivi-ties.“ItwasinterestingtowatchtheseFFAmembersshowhowtheirchapterhasinvolvedstudentsthatarenotyourtypicalFFAmembers.Itisgreattoseeac-complishmentsthesestudentshavestrivedforandthegoalstheyhaveforthefutureoftheWebbervillecommunity.Themembershaveputalotoftimeandef-forttomakethechapterthewayitistoday,”saidWebbervilleFFAAlumniPresi-dent,DavidWheeler.“Itisgreattoseehowtheirinvolvementiscarryingovertothestrengthoftheirchapter.GoodlucktotheWebbervilleFFAChapterintheirfutureendeavors.”Inordertoreceivethisawardthechapterhadtocompletealotofhardwork.An18pageapplicationwasfilledoutandturnedintothestateinJanuary.Thestateassociationthenreviewedalltheapplicationsfromacrossthestateandselectsthetopthree.TheWebbervilleFFAwasamongthistop3forthesecondyearstraight.“Itisverygratifyingtoseethestudent’shardworkpayoff,”saidFFAAdvisorColleenScottKeiser.“Itisahighlycompetitivefield,whenyoucompeteagainstsuchesteemedFFAProgramslikeByronandCorunna.Wearehonored,asachapter,tobeconsideredandhumbledbybeingnamedthestatewinner.”Thetopthreeinthestatethenpresenttheirapplicationinanywaythattheychoose.Thebasicframeofthepresentationis10minutestopresentand10min-utesoforalquestioningwithtwomemberpresenters.ThisyearSashaGloverandEmilyHousewereselectedtopresenttheawardtothreejudges.“Itwasagreathonorbeingabletopresentthisonbehalfofthechapter.Itwasalotofworkbutitdefinitelypaidoff,”saidSashaGlover.Thescoringforthenationalchapterawardisbasedontheapplicationandpresentation.TheWebbervilleChapterscoredthebestintheseareas,receivingtheawardsand$100cashprize.Theapplicationwillnowbesenttothena-tionallevelforfurtherreview.ThechapterwillberecognizedattheFFANationalConventionnextfalltowalkacrossthenationalstagewheretheywillreceiveaplaqueforthisprestigiousaccomplishment.

TheWebbervilleFFAwashonoredinNovem-beratthemonthlyInghamCountyBoardofCommissionersmeetingattheInghamCountyCourtHouse.ThecommissionersawardedthechapteraResolutionrecognizingthechapterforitsoutstandingeffortinthecommunity.“Weareveryhonoredforsuchanoutstand-ingrecognition,”saidColleenScottKeiser,FFAAdvisor.“Itisveryrewardingtohaveourelectedofficialsappreciatethediligenceofourchapterandtheextraordinaryleadershipofourofficers.”AttheboardmeetingeachmembertookafewmomentstotalkaboutthethreeareastheWebbervilleFFAstrivestoexcelin.Vicepresidentofthechapter,SashaGloverspokeaboutcommunitydevelopment,VicepresidentEmilyHousespoketotheboardaboutstudentdevelopmentandPresidentNickWebstertalkedaboutthevisionthechaptercontinuestoworktoward.FreshmanJennaKingsleyandSophomoreChelseaStanleyjoinedthem,aswelltotalkabouttheirpersonalgrowthintheFFA.

“Thiswasagreatexperienceandopportu-nity.IamveryprivilegedtobepartoftheFFAandthecommunityofWebberville,”saidjuniorEmilyHouse.AlongwiththeachievementoftheCountyResolutionthechapterreceivedanawardfromthevillageofWebbervilleattheannualFFAbanquet.VillagepresidentBradHitch-cockwasinattendanceandsaid,“Thevillageisveryproudofthechaptersachievements.”

Atthe2013RegionIVOfficerCamp,SashaGlover,wasawardedasoneofthetopthreefinalistsinAgribusiness.Gloverwasawardedthishonorthroughhishardworkanddedi-cationtohisSAE,equinemanagementatNorthforkFarms.HisSAEstartednineyearsagowhenhewasanassistanttotheNorthforkFarmsowners.Fromtherehehelpedsetupsummeractivitiesandcamps.Gloverhasbeenteach-ingrecreationallessonsforthepastthreeyears,includingscheduling,teaching,andkeepingtrackoftheprogressoffourteentotwentyridersofvaryingagesandabilities.“Goaloriented,businessminded,andaboveall,driven,”saidownerofNorthforkFarms,andbosstoGlover,ChristieShowerman.GloveralsoassumesalargemanagementandbusinesspositionatNorthforkFarms.Hescheduleslessonsandmakessurethateverythinggoesasplannedandstudent’sprogressistracked.Gloveralsokeepstrackofallpaperworkthatgoesintocertificationforthefarm.In2011,GloverreceivedtheRedBrandSAEgrantfor$1,000throughtheNationalFFAtohelphisSAE.ThisgrantallowedmetoteachfourlessonsfreeofchargetotwelvechildrenfromfinanciallychallengedfamilieswithintheWebbervilleschooldistrict.“Sashaisanoutstandingleaderandismotivatedtosucceed,”saidFFAAdviserCol-

leenScottKeiser.HehasrepresentedtheWebbervilleFFAstronglyatthestateandnationallevel.HewillcertainlyserveRegionIVwell.”GloverwasalsovotedlastweekattheRegionIVOfficerCamp,tobethe2013-2014RegionIVSecretary.HewillworkcloselywiththeotherRegionIVofficerstoplanactivitiesandhelpwithregionplanning.AnewtaskthatGloverhastakenonisbeingtheVicePresidentofMichiganQuar-terHorseYouthAssociation(MQHYA).Thisorganizationhashelpedhimtoexperienceleadershiprolesandtoconnectwithequinebusinesspeopleatthestatelevel.“Itisagreathonortobewithsomeofthetopbusinesscandidatesintheregion,alongwithbeingabletorepresentRegionIVasanofficerthisupcomingyear,”saidGlover.

Webbervillehadtwocandidatesrunningforaregionaloffice.EmilyHouseandSa-shaGlover,bothjuniors,wentthroughthedifficultprocesstoreceivethishonor.GloverandHousewereinterviewedaweekbeforeofficerregionalcamp.Thetwomadeitthroughthesetofinterviewsandwerebothslatedforsecretary.Emilywasrecentlyelectedasthe2013-2014WebbervilleFFAPresidentandSa-shawaselectedasthe2013-2014VicePresidentofCommunityDevelopment.“Beingabletorunforregionalofficewasanhonor,andnowIampreparingtorunforstateoffice,”saidHouseDuringthisyear’sRegionIVOfficerCamp,GloverandHousebothgavetwominutespeechestothecampattendees.Afterthespeecheswaswhenthetoughdecisionscame.Beingfriendsallthrough-outschool,theirfriendshadtomakeatoughdecisionondecidingwhotovotefor.

Whenitallcamedowntothefinalvote,Sashawonthepositionof2013-2014RegionIVSecretary.BothHouseandGloverwereverygoodsportsaboutthevoting.TheWebbervilleFFAwasgladtohaveoneofthetwoontheteam.CongratulationstobothSashaandEmily!“ItisagreatexperienceandanhonortoserveasthesecretaryforRegionIV!”saidGlover.

By Alyssa ArnoldWhenskillscontestcomesaroundthewholechaptercomestogethertomaketeamsandworktobecompetitiveatthecontestinAprilatMichiganStateUniversity.Thisyear,theWebbervilleFFAsenttenteamstothecontestthisyear.FromForestrytoAgSalestheteamscompetedathighlevelsandwererecognizedwithawards.Thisyear’sAgSalesteamplacedfourthinthestatereceivingGold.TheteamconsistedofAlyssaArnold,SashaGlover,EmilyHouse,andKelseiHull.Eachmemberpresentedtheiragproduct,anadintheFFAUpdate,totwojudgesandsoldtheirproductandatendofeachpresentation.Theyalsohadtodoamarketanalysisasagroupandindividualpracticumstocompletetheircompetition.“Itwasagreateventtolearnreallifeskills,”saidGlover.ThechapteralsosenttwomechanicalandelectricalteamsconsistingofGabeMarshall,JeremeArnold,TravisKubiak,andJustinO’Connor,andanotherteamconsistingofJeremi-ahThomson,MaxCrandall,BrandonBooth,andZackWickizer.JesseO’Connor,ParkerTennant,HunterOlrich,andSamHolmesmadeuptheforestryteam.DmitriGloverandZachWebsterparticipatedinthebroilerjudgingcontest.ThemiddleschoolalsosentateamforthecropcontestwhichconsistedofCalebKubiak,ZackO’Connor,andBrandonHerbert.FloricultureparticipantsincludedMaciKubiak,SavannahTennant,andEmmaGross-bauer.DmitriGlover,CalvinScofield,andJordanHathparticipatedintheSeniorPoultrycontestalongwithMichaelaChambers,ZackWebster,andMichaelWilsonparticipatingintheJuniorPoultrycontest.JaredEberly,EzraFuller,andAdamHouseparticipatedintheDairyFoodscontest.TheVeterinaryScienceparticipantswereJennaKingsley,PaigeWilson,andKenzieKollek.

FFA members at the 2012 Washington Leadership Conference

TheWebbervilleFFAwasverywellrepresentedatthisyear’s2013Michi-ganFFAStateConvention,withfourmembersreceivingstateproficiencyawards.Themembershaveworkedhardthroughouttheiryears’inFFAtosustaintheirSAE’s.Afterthelongprocessofproperrecordkeepingandfillingoutthestateapplications,thememberswereawardedfortheirsuc-cesses.KelseiHullandAlyssaArnoldwereawardedgoldinAgCommunicationsfortheirexceptionalworkinjournal-ism,photography,andsales.MaxCrandallreceivedbronzeinAgSer-vicesforhisworkathisdailyjobandworkaroundtheschool.“IttookalotoftimetofillouttheapplicationandIrealizedhowmuchIhadaccomplishedandamhonoredthatIwasrecognizedbythestateformysuccess,”saidHull.GabeMarshallwasthestatewin-nerisAgMechanicsProficiency.Hewaschosenoutofthewholestatetoreceivethisaward.Marshall’swork

inagriculturealongwithhispastjobshashelpedhisSAEdevelopintowhatitistoday.“Fillingouttheapplicationwasreallylongandtookalotoftime,butwiththehelpofMr.Wheelerandmypeers,Igotitdone,”saidMarshall.TravisKubiakwasalsonamedStateStarFarmeratthedistrictandre-gionallevels,andwasinthetopthreestarsinthestate.HereceivedtheplaqueinAgricultureProductionforallofhishardwork.Kubiakfilledoutalengthyanddetailedapplicationex-plaininghisjobandfamilyfarm,alongwithmanyinterviewsbylocalandstateagriculturalists.ThesemembersworkedhardthroughouttheiryearsinFFAtodeveloptheirSAE’sandreachtheirgoals.Withthehelpofthealumniandteachersthestudentswereabletofillouttheapplicationandwalkacrossthestagetoreceivetheirplaquesintheirproficiencies.

“IhopetogainalotofleadershipskillsinwhichIcanuseinmyeverydaylife,”JennaKingsleysaidwithexcitementforhertrip.ThetripthatKingsleyexpressedinterestinistheWashingtonLeadershipConferenceinWashingtonD.C.andisachanceforhertomeetpeoplefromallovertheUnitedStates.Peoplewhoattendthisfivedayeventwillgrowinlearningtobetterthemselvesbyhelpingothersandhowtobeaneffectiveleader.PaigeWilsonandJennaKingsleywereexcitedtohearthesurprisingnewswhentheyweregrantedthisopportunity.KingsleyandWilsonhadinterestingoingbutlittledidtheyknowbasedontheiractionstheywouldbegrantedascholarshiptohelppayforitcourtesyofMr.MichaelMartindale.Theyarethe2ndyearofWebbervillestudentsthathavebeenabletogoonthistrip.Stu-dentsareselectedontheirqualificationsandpotentialforleadership.Basedontheirachievementsit’seasytosay,thesegirlshavetheskillsandpotentialtobecomegreatleadersinthenearfuture.“Ilearnedthatitisagoodthingtostepoutsideofyourcomfortzone.Ihavebecomemoreconfidentandoutgoingwhichhasenabledmetobemorein-volvedwithoutbeingscaredornervous,”saidEmilyhouse,lastyearattendee.TheexperienceoverallcanallowFFAmemberstoconveynewideastotheirchapterandnewleadershipabilities.“Itmeantmycommunityandchapterbelievedenoughinmyleadershipabilities,”saidSashaGloverwhoattendedlastyear.

EveryyeartheWebbervilleHighSchoolcaf-eteriafillswithcommunitymembers,FFAmem-bers,andalumnifortheannualFFABanquet.Scholarshipsaregiven,competitionandofficerteamsarerecognized,andthesilentauctionisheldeveryyearatthebanquet.Withthesupportofthealumniandcommunitymembers,thechapterisabletogiveoutscholar-shipseveryyeartostudents.Scholarshipsarefundedthroughthealumniwhocoordinatethesilentauctioneveryyear.Peoplewhochoosetoparticipateinthesilentauctionbringinitemstobeauctionedoff.“Receivingascholarshipwasanhonor.Iloveseeingallthesupportthatthealumniandcommunitygivetoourchapter,”saidSeniorAlyssaArnold.Thecurrentofficerteamisrecognizedatthebanquetandtheninductsthenewofficerteam.The2013-2014officerteamismadeupofcurrentofficersalongwithinductees.Throughouttheyeartheteamholdschapterandofficermeetings,fundays,andadditionalmeetings.Thebanquethasbeenarunningtraditionfor56years.ItisagreatwayforalloftheFFAtocometogetherandcelebratetheachievementswonbyallmembers.Thecontinuingsupportofthealumniandthecommunitymembershelpsmakethebanquetpossibleeveryyear.Thechap-

BySashaGloverTheWebbervilleFFAhastwolandlabsthatin-cludeheWebbervilleandWilliamstonplotsthatareapproximately100acres,whicharebothsupportedbyBenjaminFarms.Thelandlabsal-lowthechaptertosupportandcontinuedswineprogramintheagrisciencefacilitythatbenefittheSAE’sofatleast12members.Thelandlabsalsoallowthechaptertouseitforstudiesandfurtherresearchforthestudents.Lastyearthechapterhadagroupofstudentsthatexpressedaspecialinterestinlandlabattheschoolandraisedalfalfa.“Itwaswasalotoffunbeingabletocontinuefarmingatschool,”saidseniorJustinO’Connor.ThisyearthechapterisworkinghardwithBenjaminFarmstogetatestplotputinattheWilliamstonfieldandgettingsweetcornputinatbothlandlabs.

EveryyeartheRegionIVofMichiganputsonacampforallchapterofficersintheregion.Thisyeareightofourtenofficersattendedthistwodaycamp.Officerslearnedabouttheirofficeduringseminars,heldbytheregionofficers.Duringtheseseminarstheyplayedgameswithotherofficersoftheirofficeandpreparedspeechestogivetoeveryoneatcamp.Teambuildingwasoneofthemanythingsofficersdid.Theygottobuildwitheachotherbutalsowithotherschoolsandgotmanyideasformembershipandfundrais-ing.Studentsalsogottheopportunitytoeithergoziplin-ingorahighropescourse.Thesecourseswerechallengebychoicebutalsoaskedstudentstostepoutoftheircomfortzoneandtrynewthings.Allofficerssteppedoutandtriedit.“WhenIfirstsawtheziplineIdecidedIwasnotgoingtodoit.ButaftertheencouragementofmyofficerteamandothersaroundmeIdecidedtostepoutofmycomfortzoneandtodoit,”saidFreshmanCalvinScofeild.“AfterIwentdownitonce,IreallylikeditandIwentdownmanymoretimes.”Studentsendedthefirstnightwithsomecampfiresongsandgames.TheywereaskedtobringtwoitemsfromtheirbunkandbeingthemforaDutchauction.EveryonewasconfusedonwhatthisDutchauctionwasthough.Later,theyfoundtheyhadtousethepropstheybroughtandusetheminaskittoperformforthecampandtocreateasuperhero.TheywerejudgedbythreeStateOfficersandaformerStateofficerthathadcomeforthenight.TheywereEmilyCalderone,RegionIVStateVicePresident,JulianaForbush,StateVicePresident,andLeviVoorhies,StateSentinelandformerStateSecretaryJasperCunningham.Officershadalotoffunatthiscampandlearnedalotabouttheirnewoffice.Theylearnedalotabouteachotherandmadealotofgreatmemories.

WebbervilleFFARestoresWindmill AnnualPlantSaleTheWebbervilleFFAhadtheopportunitytore-paintthewindmillattheFowlervilleFairgrounds.Thewindmillwasputtherein1987andithasnotbeenpaintedsince.SeniorsGabeMarshallandJustinO’Connorsand-edandscrapeditandre-painteditwiththeassistanceofretiredagteacherMr.BillWheeler.Thewindmillislo-catedbythelivestockbarnsanditwasmovedfromBellOakbymembersoftheFowlervilleFFA.TheboyswereinvitedbyMarvinTomlinwhowasanFFAMemberatFowlervilleandgraduatedfromtherein1989.“Itisagreathonortodothesamethingthatwasdoneyearsago,”saidseniorJustinO’Connor.TheFowlervilleFFAchapterbecameinactiveandthewindmillsymbolizestheiraccomplishments.

ByLexiLyonsWebbervilleFFAplantsalewasasuccessasthereweremanycustomersandnumerousflowersandplants.InMay,theFFAholdstheplantsaletogivetheWebbervillecommunityachancetobuyplantslocallyandtobuyflowersjustintimeformother’sday.ThesalewasheldMayeighththroughthetwelfth.Beforethesale,ManyFFAmemberssignuptoworkthesaleandcleanthebarn.FFAmem-berscametohelpunloadtheplantsandarrangethemonthewagonandhelpcustomersfindandcarrytheirplants.Thisyear,themembersdecidedtomakeaPowerPointaboutthedifferentplantstohelpthecustomersandstudentslearnaboutthevariousplants.“Theplantsaletaughtmeabouttheplantsbecausewemadeapowerpointthattaughtusandthecommunitymembersthatattendedthesaleabouteachplantandhowtocareforthem,”saidFreshmanJesseO’Connor.“TheplantsalehelpstheFFAorganizationinvariousways.ThesalehelpstheFFAorganizationraisemoneyanditsupportsthechapter.“Thesalewillgotobenefitalumnischolarships,attendancefortwomembersattheFFAWash-ingtonLeadershipConference,member’sattendanceoftheNationalConvention,andsupporttheChapter’sprogramofactivities.”saidteacherandFFAadvisorMrs.Scott-Keiser.TheplantsalegivestheFFAmemberslifeskillstohelptheminschoolandintheirfuture.“TheplantsaleisagreatexperienceforallFFAmembersandIwassoexcitedthatwehadrecordsalesthisyear.Theplantsalehashelpedmewithmysalesskillsandgreenhousemanage-ment.”saidJuniorandFFApresidentEmilyHouse.Theplantsalewasverysuccessfulthisyear.Thereweretwowagonsfilledwithdifferenttypesofplantsaswellasagreenhousefilledwithcolorfulflowers.ThisyeartheFFAorderednearly700plantsandsold450duringthefivedaysale.Thesalebroughtinnewcustomersandhadrecordsales.“Thesalewasverysuccessfulandwehavehadourbestfirsttwodaysever.Therewasanout-standingturnoutthisyear.”saidMrs.Scott-Keiser.TheFFAplantsalewasagreatsuccessandwillgotohelptheWebbervilleFFAchapter.TheWebbervilleFFAcontinuestogroweveryyearwithplantsalesandinallactivitiestheydo.

StartinginJanuary,FFAand4-HmembersstarttheirworkingprocessfortheirannualfairexhibitsfortheInghamCountyandFowlervillefair.Thereareover30studentswhoshowatleastonelargeorsmallanimalatthefairthatcomesdirectlyfromWebbervilleCommunitySchools.Asyoucansee,thisplaysahugeroleinthestudent’slife,alongwiththeWebbervilleFFAChapter.WebbervilleFFAgivesstudentstheop-tionforthemtoshowanytypeofanimaltheywouldlikeaswellasexhibitsateitherfairtheychoose.TheFFAhopestogive10to15studentstheopportunitytoshowswinethatarecurrentlyintheAGfacilityattheschool.Gettingthisop-portunityisnoeasytask,FFAmembershavetobeinvolvedinmanyoftheeventsthatthechapterparticipatesinaswellashelpcarefortheanimalsthroughouttheyear.“BeingprovidedanimalstoexhibitatthefairsisagreatopportunitytoexpandmembersSAE’s,”saidchapterpresidentEmilyHouse.Studentsspendabout8to10hoursaweektraining,feeding,andcleaningtheir

animals.“ItsfantastictohavesuchgreatalumnisupportforalltheanimalSAEprojects.Animalprojectsofferstudentsanexcel-lentSAEasitteachesresponsibilityandentrepreneurialspirit,”saidadvisorCol-lenScott-Keiser.TheFFAchapterandmembersareanx-iouslywaitingforthelatedaysinJulyandearlydaysinAugusttoshowoffalltheirhardwork.“I’mreallyexcitedforfairthisyearbecauseit’salwaysalotoffunhang-ingoutwithalloftheWebbervillepeopleandmakingnewfriendsfromdifferentschools,”saidSeniorGabeMarshall.

Presidential Update

TheWebbervilleFFAhasexperiencedexponentialgrowthoverthepastyear.ThechapterhostedaNationalOfficer,continuedgreattraditions,andbuiltitssuccessatthelocal,state,andnationallevels.TheaccomplishmentsoftheWeb-bervilleFFAchapterandmembersarenosmallfeat.Members,advisors,alumni,localbusinesses,andcommu-nitymembershaveworkeddiligentlyallyeartokeepthischapteraliveandthriving.

Asthe2013-2014PresidentIamveryexcitedaboutthisupcomingyear.Ilookforwardtoachievingandsurpass-ingthechapterandmembersgoals.AfterseeingtheenthusiasmoverthatpastyearthereisnodoubtinmymindthatthereisanythingtheChaptercan-notaccomplish.Intheupcomingyeartheofficerteamplanstoexpandagriculturaleducationdowntotheelementaryschools.IthasalwaysbeenachaptergoaltostartthePALSprogrambackupandthisyeartheofficerteamisgoingtoworktogethertomakethishappen.Theofficerteamhasalsoplannedtodomorechapterfunnights,increasemembership,workmorecloselywiththealumni,andreachouttothecom-munityregularly.Wehaveagreatcommunitybehindusandwewanttomakesurethatthecommunityknowsthattheyarewelcomeanythingandweappreciatetheirknowledge.Myfel-lowofficersareveryhardworkersandIknowthatalotwillbeaccomplishedthisyear.IlookforwardtowherethechapterisheadedandthefutureoftheWebbervilleFFAchapter.BepreparedforthebestyeartheWebbervilleFFAChapterhasexperienced.

FFA Prepares for FairTheWebbervilleFFAagriculturalfacili-tiesandgardeniscontinuallysupportedbymanygrantsthechapterreceives.Someofthegrantsthechapterhasre-ceivedincludetheGlassbrookGrant,RuralYouthDevelopmentGrant,andFoodforAllGrant.Thesegrantshaveallbeenawardedtothechapterbecauseoftheoutstandingwaysthechapterusesthem.Thesegrantsgivethechaptertheoppor-tunitytoruntheirgreenhouseandplantsale.Manycommunitymembersenjoytheplantsaleandlookforwardtothesaleeachyear.Thegrantmoneygoestowardsplant-ingvegetablesandraisedbedgardens.Thesefreshvegetablesandraisedbedsarethendonatedtothelocalfoodbanks.Thesegrantsallowthechapteringivingbacktothelocalcommunityandfighthungerlo-cally.TheFoodforAmericaprogramalsoknownasAGstravagnzaisalsograntsupported.ThroughtheGlassbrookGrant,OperationCountyFair,thechapterwillbuildfairpens.

National FFA Officer VisitsTokickoffNationalFFAWeek,WebbervillehadtheopportunitytohostKalieHall,the2012-2013NationalFFASecretaryalongwithmanyotherstafffromNationalFFAandMichiganFFA.HallstartedoffherfirstdayofFFAWeekwithEmilyCalderone,RegionIVVicePresident,touringWebberville’sfacilities.ThiswasthefirsttimeinWebbervilleFFA’shistorythatwehavehadthehonortohostaNationalOfficer.HallhadbreakfastwithWebbervilleFFAmembersalongwithpastAlumniandbusinessleaders.Afterhavingbreakfast,HallandtheAlumnitouredtheAgfacilitieswithatourleadbytheFFAstudents.Thestudentsguidedeachgroupthroughthebarnandschoolandlistenedtopre-sentationsgivenbythestudents.HallandtheAlumniwerebothimpressedwiththefacilitiesandleadershipthatWebbervillehad.“ItwasquiteanhonortobechosenbecauseofalltheaccomplishmentstheWebbervilleFFAhasmadeinrecentyears.ItwasgreattoseeallthesupportfromAlumniandcommunitymembers,”saidAlumniDaveWheeler.“I’mgladtheofficersinvitedtheByronchaptermemberstosharetheexperiencewiththem.TheexperiencewasgreatandthemembersfromNationalFFAandMichi-ganFFAwereimpressed.ItwasoverallagreattimethatIknowmanypeopleenjoyed.”DuringHall’svisit,shegaveaworkshoptothechaptersaboutbondingwitheachotherandcommunicating.Hallalsospokeaboutmakinggoalsandfollow-ingthroughwitheverygoalyoumake.“HavingaNationalOfficercometoourschoolwasagreathonorandhermes-sagereallygottoeveryone,”saidSeniorAlyssaArnold.“Itwasinterestingtoseeallthedifferentwayssheincorporatedintheactivities.”BothoftheofficerteamshadagreattimewithHallandappreciatedherdo-natinghertime.WebbervillewouldalsoliketothanktheAlumniforhelpingpullthiseventoffandfortheircontinuedsupportthrougheverythingtheydo.“HavingtheAlumnicometomeetwiththeNationalOfficerwasverynice,”saidSeniorKelseiHull.“It’sgreattoknowthatwehaveagreatsupportgroup.”
