3. Installing and Removing CO2 Cylinders

The Smith & Wesson M&P air pistol is powered by one 12 gram CO2 cylinder. We recommend the use of Walther CO2 cylinders for a proper seal.

3A. Installing a New CO2 Cylinder•Puttheairpistol“ONSAFE”(seeStep2.OperatingtheSafety).•Removethemagazine.•Makesureaprojectileisnotloaded(seeStep4.UnloadingProjectiles).•IfitcontainsCO2(seeStep3B.RemovingCO2Cylinders).•PullthepistolgriprearwardexposingtheCO2housing(illustration3a).•Beforeinstallinga12gCO2cylinder,placeonedropofRWSChamber lubeonthetopofthesmallendofthe12gCO2cylinder.•Insertthe12gCO2cylinder,withthesmallneckofthecylinderpointing upwardintothegrip,andturnthepiercingknobclockwiseuntilitpierces theCO2cylinder.(illustration3b)•Pushthepistolgripforwardtoclose(illustration3c).•Makesurethecylinderhasbeenpunctured.Withtheairpistolunloaded, pointedinaSAFEDIRECTION,take“OFFSAFE”(seeStep2B)and pullthetriggertofire.Ifitdoesnotfire,tightenthepiercingknobsome moreandrepeatthisstep.

NOTE: NevertrytoforceanyCO2cylinderintooroutofplace.DonotstoreyourairpistolwithaCO2cylinderinit.Ifyouknowyouwillnotbeusingyourairpistolformorethan24hours,emptytheCO2cylinderandremoveitfromtheairgun.(seestep3B.RemovingCO2cylinders).Thisisveryimportanttoremember,asitwillprolongthelongevityofyourairpistolseals.

Unloading Projectiles from the Magazine• AlwayspointtheairpistolinaSAFEDIRECTION.• Makesuretheairpistolis“ONSAFE”(seeStep2.OperatingtheSafety).• Removethemagazinebypressingthemagazinereleasebutton (illustration4a)andpullingthemagazinefromthebottomofthegripframe.• LocatetheBBreleasebuttononthemagazine(illustration4d).• Holdmagazinesothatthetop(opening)ispointedawayfromyourface. Itisbesttowearshootingglassestoprotectyoureyesandtoplaceitover atrashcanorothercontainer.• PressdownontheBBreleasebuttonuntilalloftheBBshavebeenejected fromthemagazine.Donothavemagazinepointedtowardstheface.

• Youandotherswithyoushouldalwayswearshootingglassestoprotectyoureyes.• AlwaysaimyourairpistolinaSAFEDIRECTION.Whenyouaresureofyourtargetand backstop,andtheareaaroundthetargetisclearthenyouarereadytofire.• Take“OFFSAFE”(seeStep2)andsqueezethetriggerwithsteadypressureuntiltheair pistolfires.

6. Use and Handling of CO2 Cylinders

WARNING: A CO2 CYLINDER CONTAINS GAS UNDER PRESSURE, WHETHER OR NOT IT HAS BEEN INSERTED INTO A GUN. IF EXPOSED TO HIGH TEMPERATURES (SUCH AS INSIDE A CLOSED CAR AND/OR IN DIRECT SUNLIGHT, IT COULD EXPLODE. STORE ALL CYLINDERS IN A COOL PLACE.

CAUTION:Alwayschecktomakesuretheairpistolisunloadedwhengettingfromstorageorfromanotherperson.

CAUTION:NeverattempttoreuseaCO2cylinderforanypurpose.

Alwaysfollowwarningslistedonpropellantsourceforhandlingandstorage.ItispossiblethatcertainconditionsmayaffectaCO2cylinder,whichcanimpactitsproperperformance.Theseconditionsincludetheusage,maintenanceandstorageattemperaturesthatarehigherorlowerthannormaloutdoorstemperatures(59°F/15°Cto69.8°F/21°C).Anotherconditionmaybewhenthegunisfiredrapidly.

1.HightemperaturescanincreasepressureintheCO2cylinderandalsowithinthegun,leadingtohigherthanstandardoperatingpressure.Thisexcesspressurecouldcausetheguntomalfunctionorbepermanentlydamaged.Maximumstorageoroperationtemperatureshouldneverexceed122°F(50°C).Thistemperaturecanbereachedifyouleavethegununderdirectsunlightonabrightday.Thus,toensurepropergunoperation,donotexposeittohightemperaturesordirectsunlightforlongperiodsoftime.Otherwise,theCO2cylindercouldoverheatandexplode,whichcoulddamagetheairgunandcauseinjuriesordeathtopeoplearoundit.2.Fastconsecutiveshootingmayproduceadecreaseoftemperatureinthegun,aswellastheCO2cylinder.Thiscouldresultinlowerprojectilevelocitiesandmayevenlowergaspressureenoughsothatthepistolwillnotfire.Thisconditioncanbeespeciallyapparentwhenshootingincoldweatherandcanbeavoidedbyallowingmoretimebetweenshots.Thispermitsthegastoincreaseintemperatureandpressureandproducenormalvelocities.3.Duringrapidfire,themuzzlevelocityofeachshotwilldiminish.ThiscanaffectshootingaccuracyandyouwillgetfewershotsperCO2cylinder.4.CareshouldbeexercisedtoensurethatthegunisnotshotwithaCO2cylinderthatislowinpressure.Herearesomeindicatorsofinsufficientpressure: A)Thesoundoftheshotisnotasloudaswhenthecylinderisfull. B)Theprojectilehitsthetarget,butinalowerpositionthanitwould withafullCO2cylinder(thatis,theshootingspeedhasdropped).

Withcareandroutineinspectionsyourairpistolwillprovidemanysessionsofshootingenjoyment.Abuse,neglectandcontinuedexposuretotheelementswillimpairtheperformanceofanyairgun.Toensurecontinuedproperfunction,apply2to3dropsofRWSSpringCylinderoilontoallmovingpartssuchastheBBfollower,gascylinderpiercingscrewandthetriggerhinge.

7. Maintenance, Cleaning, and Storage
