We, the class of '56, take deep pride in dedi
cating this year's Greene Lite to Mr. Ziemski. We
are sincerely grateful for the guidance, friendship,
and understanding he has shown us throughout our
high school years. When recalling our Alma Mater
we will with fondness remember him.
MR. BENNETT
During my first year at Greene Central School, it has been a pleasure to work with the students and faculty. The spirit displayed has been excellent. May you all approach the future with determination for success. Success is what you yourself determine it to be. Aim high and accept nothing less.
MR. PEARL - Vice Principal
1956 ..• A year of continued growth within your school, a growth to which you have contributed through leadership and example. Seniors must always be the principal source of that which typifies the best in a school system. You have fulfilled that obligation well. We ask that you continue to be an active booster for your Alma Mater by becoming a member of the Alumni Association.

While reporting for the Daily Planet, the Universe's greatest newspaper, I was assigned to cover the opening of Space Station No. 561523. I donned my interplanetary space suit to head for the space station. Because of lack of parking space, I took a space taxi. Much to my surprise it was driven by the "Man About Space," Ed Ketzak. To pass the short duration of time between the Earth and Venus, we scanned the best seller, "Life with a Stranger," by Bonna Armstrong. On the way I passed points of interest: Paul Shipton's Space Kennels, the Hunsicker and Beardsley Moonshine Mine and the "Stardust" Space Resort owned by Edward Winchell, this week featuring Don Scott and his "Frantic Three," Diane Gibson, Pat Herbert, and Harry Whittaker, playing the hottest music "this side of heaven. "
I arrived at the Space Station and was greeted by Admiral Richard Van Slooten, who informed me that this station was designed by Bill Drachler and built by the Bob Tice Construction Company. He also told his secretary Barbara Sutton to take me on a tour of the Space Station. My first stop was at the Station Diner, for a breakfast of Sugar Jets. Here I saw Joyce Hall and Shelva Lane as waitresses. Our next stop, out of pure necessity, was at the Hospital. I was here introduced to Dr. Basil Williams and his small but competent staff of Helen Kosta and Judy Manley.
Next door was the ultra-modern school, with Norman Pixley, supervising principal. In my tour here I met Madonna Armstrong, Spenglish teacher (Space English); Sandra Elliott, Physical Education Director; Sandra Williamson, School Nurse; Janet Lantz, Homemaking teacher; William Hoyt, teaching Mathematics and Science respectively. Before leaving, I was allowed to sit in on a lecture on the "Evils of Going Steady" given by Professor David Excell, with Jerry McNulty sitting in the front seat, the chief defender of the argument.
I left the school to go to Bob Utter's Space Theater in time to catch the latest news films from Earth. In these we saw Bob Parks capture the world wrestling crown, Jack Greene and Mildred Watrous win academy awards, Don Dillenbeck as volleyball "King" and Roger Shafer's last lap of the Indianapolis "500."
Leaving the theater on the way to Embarkation point1 we passed Lois Copeland and Florence Barrow's Beauty Salon, next door to Marcia Patton's and Jean Farnham's Haberdashery. When I arrived at the take-off point, I was lucky to catch the 2:35 back to Earth. I was greeted by Sandra Lott, Chief Stewardess, and Dale Robinson, pilot. I was pleased to meet the two millionaires from Hall street, Dick Van Name and Dave Barrows, who had donated the money for the space station.

Dear Diary,
It won't be long now and we'll be looking back at our High School days. Gosh, we really hate to leave our Alma Mater dear. But, after all, we do have to grow up some day, and we all feel eager to make our contributions to world history, just as we've become known in the school's history. As we look back, we'll realize that our life at Greene Central High School was perhaps the most memorable, most guiding, and most character-building period of our lives.
Gee, just think of the things we've done together, within the beautiful walls of G. c. S. Let's review a few of them.
1952-1953 -We were the timid, fun-raising freshman class. People may bring up the fact that we won't go to Washington for our Senior Trip but they probably don't recall that we were the most-traveled frosh class in Greene Central's history. Remember the good times we had with Mr. Ziemski. He took ten of us to New York City to visit the United Nations building that fall. We sat in the General Assembly Chamber and listened in on the earphones to the five different language interpretations. We also went up in the Empire State Building and visited St. Patrick's Cathedral and Rockefeller Plaza. Oh, and we'll never forget walking down Fifth Avenue munching on lollipops! We were very young then, remember?
April, 1953 saw us leaving for Brookline, MassachusettS for an exchange trip. We became familiar with many new people and exciting places. We toured Boston and its surroundings, visited with Governor Herter and visited Harvard. Remember the picnic at Cape Cod? If it had been warmer, we could have gone for a dip in the ocean. You know what? I'll bet Mr. Finnegan thinks we learned all about Plymouth Rock, the battles of Lexington and Concord, Walden Pond, and all our other historical facts by ourselves. He's wrong though. We picked them up from our exchange trip •••
Came the end of June and we marched up the aisle to "Pomp and Circumstance." We had a good scholastic record, but we would strive to better it by 1956. We were now out of Junior High and must dedicate ourselves to the serious bit of scholastic achievement and leadership.
DEAR DIARY, (Continued)
1953-1954 - Our sophomore year started in the old school, of which we hold fond memories, but after mid-year exams, we were situated in the beautiful new building. The first few weeks we were like strangers. We couldn't remember which way to tum as we came out of the rooms, and the hall seemed just shon of a mile long. We marveled at the modem equipment and conveniences and became the proudest student body in the country.
1954-1955 -Goodness sakes! We're already juniors! The years just seem to disappear. Mr. Pearl is our vice principal now. He's been our homeroom teacher for three years and we're very fond of him. Everyone enjoys his classes - he has such wonderful philosophies and enjoyable humor. He has truly played an important pan in the role of character builder.
"Our class is having the best Prom ever." That was our cry and the boast of every junior class. Under the capable planning and leadership of Mr. Ziemski our theme of "Springtime in Paris" was carried out very successfully, both socially and financially. It took a lot of bard work and headaches for many. but what undertaking doesn't?
This was the last year of the senior class before us. We admit they were a great group and we were sorry to see them leave. Our wonderful principal, Mr. Beebe, was also leaving, and his going was regarded as a great loss by the entire student body, and the town's people as well. To show him some small appreciation, we dedicated our new flagpole to him. We admired him for his outstanding character and personality, and the cooperation and leadership shown while within his contact.
1955-1956- This is it. Our last year at G.c.s. Our class is very happy to be acquainted with our new principal, Mr. Bennett, and we're sorry we haven't more time to spend together. We're sure the classes following us will provide a good example by which he can judge us, and all the students of Greene.
This year we've been looking forward to every week end and vacation in the hopes that we can complete our back assignments. Our class has been active in sports, music, and so many extracurricular and class activities, that we have to plug every minute. Of course we have time for our fun and parties, and realize that Mr. Finnegan and the rest of the faculty are only trying to prepare us for life in the wide world, after we step out of the senior door this June. We don't realize it now, but we'll appreciate the push a lot more than we expect. Mr. Hopkins has been a great help in the choosing of our careers. His guidance has truly been appreciated.
By spending a whole year together with Mr. Finnegan as our class advisor and history teacher, we can't help profiting by his guiding and teaching. He is a personality whom we shall never forget.
Well, Diary, I see the future ahead, the past is through. We'll come back some day, and see G. c. s. playing the same important role in the lives of others, as it has in ours. Our class is now going into the world and will remember that there must always be a G.c.s. We won't forget! And thanks!
