LEED Platinum renovation of Classrooms and Office BuildingOne of the original buildings in the agricultural quad, Warren Hall was built in the 1930s and houses the undergraduate business program; FXFOWLE renovated it for the first time, modernizing the systems, providing improved access to natural light, and enhancing the learning and teaching environments. I led the CA effort through completion of the final phase and guided the LEED certification effort.

College Library and Faculty offices in Historic GymnasiumBarnard College engaged FXFOWLE to design a temporary space for their library while a new building is under construction, as well as several faculty offices. 90’ castellated beams spanned the gymnasium to create a second floor while the first floor was kept as open and light-filled as possible. As Project Architect, I led the design team through DD, CD, and CA phases. The project is now nearing completion.

Property storage and inmate release buildingRikers Island houses as many as 15,000 inmates in 10 separate Jails. NYC Dept. of Corrections is currently planning to construct a new facility to house inmate property (clothing, money, valuables) and process released inmates. As job captain I navigated the design through programming and design development phases in a complex and highly political process.
San Juan Mountain compoundSituated on a steep wooded site with spectacular views, this house recalled historic mining mill buildings once common to the region. I was central to all phases of the project design and construction from early planning phases through CA.

Net-Zero design-build competition hosted by DOE on national mallThe Parsons-Stevens proposal uses passivhaus principles, in-depth solar analysis, energy modeling, and community feedback to generate form and organize program. The competition module is now part of a duplex in a nearby under-served neighborhood of Washington DC. As project manager, I led the student team through the design and build.

Master plan, housing design, construction managementA hybrid rural-urban model for sustainable development in Africa, the Anam City project balances ecology with economic growth. Focusing on the first neighborhood, I designed several prototype houses, an agricultural storage facility, workshed structures, and a health center.

Sustainable gut renovation and energy upgradeActing as contractor, carpenter, and tradesman, I reconstructed interior and exterior framing, lighting, fenestration, heating, plumbing, electrical systems, and finishes. Design goals included energy efficiency improvements and extensive material re-use.

RE:SOURCE ALBANY
RE:SOURCE Albany ntegrates landscape and architecture with urban infrastructure, creating a new relationship between people and their garbage by highlighting the process of turning by-products into resources in a unique and vibrant setting that is part of everyday routine (inter-neighborhood path), community gathering space (linear rooftop park) and neighborhood resource (community garden).
Integrated waste processing/ biofuel & energy production facilityRe-source Albany re-imagines the relationship between Americans and their refuse. The design integrates landscape, architecture, and urban infrastructure, creating a new relationship between people and their waste while transforming by-products into energy resources.

Holistic stormwater drainage and circulation solution This project seeks to turn New York city’s current stormwater drainage crisis into a desirable resource by treating rainwater through surface biological processes, and creating a “community well” gathering hub and educational facility.
