The idea for 102 Circuits was inspired by the classic 101 Circuits for Scalextric Drivers. According to this official magazine...

Partly as an homage, partly as an update and partly in the hopes of actually going one better, 102 Circuits was born.

70s style flares and sideburns are optional, but knowing your Escort from your Stratos, or your Munari from your Carlsson, is compulsory.
