The Importance of Care Groups

Church growth studies have shown that if newcomers do not develop at least seven new friendships within a few months, they will probably drop out and not return. Assimilation must be intentional, monitored, and personal. Every adult leader should view assimilation as a personal responsibility. This should apply not only to integrating newcomers into the class but also into the church as a whole. The more people new members are introduced to and ministries they are involved in, the more likely they are to remain active.

Friendships and relationships may be the most important approaches to assimilation. People want to know that others are concerned about them. But trust and respect will not come just because we are church members. We have to prove we are trustworthy with lifestyles that match our words.
