Principal’s Reflection
04 January, 2016
Week 2, Term 1
Dear Families,
Welcome back to the first full school week for the 2016. It has been fan-
tastic to see the Transition students and our new students across the school
find their feet and become part of Holy Spirit school community. This
week I have been lucky enough to spend time in each of the classes assist-
ing with academic work and taking physical education lessons with some
of the junior classes. I‘m reminded each day of the vibrant and Christ
filled community that is Holy Spirit.
This Friday night families are all welcome to come to Casuarina Pool and
bring along a picnic dinner between 5:30pm and 7pm. This is our first
family event for the year. This is a great way for new families to become
involved with our school community. Don’t forget to bring your bathers.
Entry is at pool prices.

SCHOOL COUNSELLOR
Did you know that Holy Spirit has a new school counsellor? We
welcome Melissa Lowe to our school as she starts this week.
She works at Holy Spirit each Monday
There are many reasons why parents access counselling for their
children, some may be;
Parents are very welcome to speak to the counselor at any time,
whether face to face or over the phone. After a referral is made,
the counsellor will contact you prior to meeting your child, to
discuss any issues. The counsellor will also contact you after
counseling starts, to update you on how things are going. Confidentiality: A good counselling relationship is always
based on trust, so all of the information you or your child share
with the counsellor is of course, strictly confidential. There are a
couple of duty of care situations where a counsellor would be
obliged to contact a third par ty, but these only involve extreme
situations where it is disclosed that a person may harm them-
selves or others.
The Counselling Session: During counselling sessions, the coun-
sellor uses child-focused activities such as play, stories and re-
sources to help children express their feelings and experiences.
The counsellor can also assist with referral to other agencies if
required. The sessions usually range in time from 15 – 30
minutes and children generally find them a positive and enjoya-
ble experience.
Accessing the Counselling Service: Parents can speak to a teach-
er, principal or the counsellor about their concerns and the refer-
ral forms are located at the Holy Spirit school reception.Melissa can be contacted at CatholicCare NT on 08 8944 2000
or leave a message at the school office.
