Young Mr. Lincoln. The phantom of Nancy Hanks

AbstractThe time displayed in the film is the one that corresponds to the professional and political life of Abraham Lin-coln. Although the main theme is the adaptation of a judicial case that happened twenty years later; the storyforms over the film, a series of landmarks by which a paralellism, between the lives of Lincoln and Jesus ofNazareth, The Emancipatory and The Savior, is established. We will analyse the coincidences between thesetwo figures following the poem with which the film begins. Lincoln’s mother, Nancy Hanks and his fiancée AnnRutledge are both portrayed as the makers and motivators of the career and work of the one who will becomethe president of the United States, as well as a sort of deities that will write his destiny.

ResumenEl tiempo representado en el film corresponde al comienzo de la vida profesional y política de Abraham Lincoln.Si bien el tema central es la adaptación de un caso judicial ocurrido veinte años después, el relato va componien-do una serie de hitos por los que se establece un paralelismo entre las vidas de Lincoln y Jesús de Nazaret, ElEmancipador y El Salvador. A raíz del poema con que la película comienza se van analizando las coincidenciasentre las dos figuras. La madre de Lincoln, Nancy Hanks y su prometida Ann Rutledge son representadas comolas artífices e inductoras de la carrera y obra del que será presidente de Estados Unidos, así como una suertede deidades que escriben su destino.
