Planning and Design Considerations
Planning Steps1) Select outlet locations and configurations.2) Calculate total number of outlet and service cables needed, and lengths required.3) Select Cat 5e/6 connectivity panel(s) and video module(s) to support outlets
and desired capabilities.4) Select appropriate Media Convergence Center to accommodate connectivity panels
and modules.*
*Recommend RCS36 for maximum expansion capability.
Design Considerations & Recommendations>> A minimum of one outlet location should be cabled in each of the following rooms:
• Kitchen• Bedroom• Family/Great Room• Den/Study
>> Cables should be home run fromoutlets to the Media ConvergenceCenter (MCC).
>> The MCC should be centrally located in a climate-controlled location to minimize cable runlengths.
>> Minimum recommended servicecables to the MCC:
• (2) Cat 5e/6 from Telco NID• (2) RG6 from CATV NID• (4) RG6 from digital satellite-
dish mounting location>> A 120VAC, 15A non-switchable
duplex electrical outlet should beprovided within the MCC.

DSL Starter Panel Application
DSL
Delivering advantages for DSL.
In addition to providing plug-and-play patching capability, connectivity panels equipped with a DSL/Security module (patent pending) will also:
>> Eliminate the need for DSL filters at each phone location throughout the home.>> Eliminate potential interference between the DSL and security alarm panels.>> Allow the security panel to seize a phone line for alarm reporting without disrupting the
DSL connection — critical for applications where DSL is used for remote monitoring.

Active Video Modules
Description Part Number
2x8 Active Bi-Directional Video Module (5–1000 MHz, DC Pass) 1479337-1
Product Facts
:: Active video modules (AVMs) offer high performance, versatility and a “future-ready” solution for residentialvideo distribution. The 2x8 AVMs are IR passing port toport and capable of reverse modulation utilizing a coaxoutput port. The 2x8 AVM amplifies the incomingCATV/ANT signal, providing a 4dB gain to each of eightoutputs compared to an 11dB loss (typical) for the PVM.The modulator input has its own amplifier circuit providing a 2dB gain.

Product Facts
:: Provides a convenient means to distribute two satelliteLNB inputs to any two outlet coax ports for digital satellite service.
:: Provides convenient demarcation for incoming coaxialcable.
Product Facts
:: Provides a means to terminate all horizontal coax cablesfrom wall outlets without the need to purchase multiplevideo splitters/amplifiers.
:: Permanent horizontal coax cable is terminated once and no longer needs to be disturbed. Reconfiguration isaccomplished via mini-coax patch cables between thetop side of the video patch panel and the video distribution modules.
:: Reduces cost and complexity of video distribution system — it’s only necessary to purchase video splitters/amplifiers to support the number of ports actually used at any given time. The simpler the distribution system, the better.
:: Serves as a convenient means to patch incoming services (DSS, digital cable box input, cable modeminput) directly to a selected wall outlet.
:: The combination of video patch panel and equipmentpanel provides greater aesthetics and flexibility for customizing the system.
:: Includes (6) 1479008-1 and (2) 1479009-1 Mini-Coaxpatch cables
Description Part NumberRCS36 Video Patch Panel 1479283-112-Port Video Feed-Thru Expansion Module 1479286-1
Product Facts
:: Flexible 75-ohm mini-coax patch cables provideconvenient means for patching between videopatch panel and video distribution modules.
:: Typical loss <1dB (5-1000MHz).

Product Facts
:: Premium A-BUS Audio Distribution System: ... Line-level audio, IR, and source on/of
status is distributed from a central source (e.g., PC, TV, CD player, etc.) over Cat 5 or better cabling to amplified volume controlmodules located in each room — eliminatingthe need for a separate amplifier.
... Any Cat 5e/6 outlet jack can be used foraudio distribution by simply connecting thesource input module using a standard Cat 5patch cable, then making the appropriateconnection in the Media Convergence Center.Speaker cable (16Awg recommended) is onlyrequired between the volume control andspeaker pair located in each room. Volumecontrols are available with or without IRcapability.
... A-BUS Distribution Hubs support up to four zones. The number of zones can beexpanded by adding additional hubs via the expansion port. Local input modulesallow each audio zone to be used forindependent listening. (See FigureBelow.)
