Lighting

Lighting controls are relatively straight-forward to understand. The two primary elements to

control are:

state of the light (on or off)

brightness level of the light

Controlling these two elements in an intelligent way not only leads to savings in energy, but also

helps create the desired lighting in each room consistent with the activity taking place in that

room.

Lighting scenes are the combination on/off and brightness level settings for multiple lights in the

home. This helps achieve a desired environment for a given situation or occasion.

Once a lighting scene is defined, it can be invoked by time of day, motion/occupancy or contact

sensing, or the push of a single button at a convenient place in the home.

Sunset/sunrise, wakeup, home from work, and night lights are examples of time of day scenes

for everyday living.

Some of the everyday scenes may need modified when over-night guests are present, or away

on vacation. Dinner party, movie time, patio party, romantic evening, and large social are

examples of event-based scenes typically activated by pushing a button.

Climate

Automation system can control the heating and air conditioning (HVAC) in the form of

programmable thermostats. This helps address comfort and efficiency by maintaining a schedule

consistent with your family’s presence in the home.

Convenience is achieved when the automation system detects occupancy and changes the

temperature in combination with the time of day. Or detect open doors or windows and shut down

the HVAC system until they are closed.

The system can also be designed to sense when windows and doors are opened so that it may

turn the A/C off to save on cooling loss by ventilation.

The above will also equate to energy savings when the house is unoccupied or at night when

everyone is sleeping.

Entertainment

Single-remote functionality replaces individual device remotes and provides the ability to control

them by emitting multiple commands with the press of a single button.

Sprinkler valve controls and rain detection devices can be seamlessly integrated with the Home
