  • Located to the south of Chennai on the Vandalur-Kalembak-kam Road, this scheme aims to maximise the sites potential views/location whilst creating a community based internal space. Consisting of 1725 residential units, this project caters to Chennais growing professionals and senior citizens. The scheme includes 1 BHK, 2BHK, 3 BHK, senior living units and a limited number of sky villas. The approach taken by the design team has been to create a development that is contextual and contemporary.

The masterplan for the 15.28 acre site creates multiple court-yards through a ribbon like building cluster formation. Inspira-tion for the ribbon like form came from the meandering rivers as a flow of material and energy that finds its natural path on the landscape. This approach provides an optimised layout of the buildings on the very specific site condition. It breaks down the site into different courtyards, creating more human scale scenarios, whist maximising views and green spaces. The views include a seasonal lake towards the East and a government greenbelt towards the West. Both of these natural features will provide the residents with a connection to Chennais beautiful natural landscape and ecology. Internally, the multiple court-yards are connected by a further ribbon landscape that is or-ganic in form and undulating. Each of the landscape courtyards have a particular character to them which vary from outdoor sports/ childrens play areas to flower gardens/outdoor seat-ing. As a result the landscape ribbon will become a connector through the centre of the scheme that bring opportunities to socialize, meet up, play, exercise, read, and contemplate and many more activities. Furthermore, the landscape element will follow soft contours and transitions towards the more recti-linear residential blocks. From the flats above the landscape ribbon can be seen as a beautiful organic park that creates a natural connection between inside / outside.

  • X BLOCK Planet 3 Studios reiterates radical design expertise with daring addition to a Mumbai college campus

Taking forward the progressive education agenda of the institute, this significant new addition to a larger engineering college campus is an adaptive-reuse through interiors of a pre-existing industrial structure that has been retrofitted into a very unusual learning facility. Enthused by the success of their earlier designed building, the educators and the students unanimously elected to have us design this additional 35,000 sq ft space.

We hope that this project will go on to establish the fact that building typologies have to evolve to keep pace with changing
