That’s as close as Clinton and Trump’s massive en- tourages came at the state fair, a rite of passage for any presidential candidate. The respective Democratic and Republican front-runners each drew large crowds of gawk- ers as Clinton sampled a pork chop on a stick and Trump gave rides to children on his helicopter emblazoned with his famous last name. “Nice to be here!” Clinton said as she started an hour- long stroll across the fair- grounds. Former Iowa Sen. Tom Harkin, who endorsed her this week and wore a straw hat to shade him from the blazing sun, accompanied her. Everywhere Clinton walked, large crowds followed her to get a photograph, a handshake or a quick hello. Trump later made a grand entrance, landing his helicop- ter in athletic fields about a mile away and offering rides to children before he came onto the grounds. He stared at the dinosaur, and it stared back. When he moved closer, the dinosaur turned its head and roared. Myles was within inches of the Utahraptor before he turned to his mom, Erika, and smiled. Myles was one of hundreds of kids walking wide-eyed through the Civic Center during Juras- sic Quest, an interactive exhibit featuring dozens of life-size, ani- matronic dinosaurs. The event spilled out onto the grounds of the Civic Center and featured science stations, fossil digs, food and inflatable bounce areas. As Myles watched the di- nosaur roar, turn and roar again, his mom explained the youngster’s love for everything Jurassic. “He has been fascinated by di- nosaurs since he was a baby. He sleeps with them, he plays with them, he just loves everything about them,” Erika said. The wait to get into Jurassic Quest ranged from one to three hours for those buying tickets at the gate. Midway through the day’s activities, the Jurassic Quest company announced the event had been oversold. Online ticket sales were stopped, and a limit was placed on the number of people entering the event each hour. Erika said she purchased her tickets online in advance. As the crowds continued to pour into the Civic Center, Myles’ attention moved on to the other dinosaurs in the building. Across the room, an Edmonto- saurus was preying on another dinosaur. Across from those, a Velociraptor, a Triceratops and an Albertosaurus all roared in unison. When asked which were his favorite, Myles took a second to think, then he responded simply: “The bigger ones.” Jurassic Quest hours were extended today to 9 a.m.-8 p.m. By Justin B.
