JERTE VALLEYThe Jerte Valley is very well-known for its cherry trees in bloom. In the middle of the valley flows the Jerte river. It´s located in the west of Spain and in the north of the province of Cáceres. People from all over the world come to the valley to see the cherry trees in bloom.

Page 11: American penpals

There are 4 floors:

The football and basketball court and the gym are on the lower ground floor.

On the ground floor we have the cafeteria ( where we can buy sandwiches and many types of candy), the laboratory, the library, the assembly hall, the art classrooms and the music classroom

On the first floor is the teachers’ room, the head teacher’s office, and some departments and classes.

And on the third floor we have more departments and classes.

Page 12: American penpals

Compulsory Secondary Education (ESO) lasts 4 years.

Next we have 2 types of upper secondary education: art and social sciences.

We have paintings of the art students everywhere

Cooking and catering

We also have “Cooking and Catering Services”. It’s a type of vocational training where students study to become future cooks and waiters.

Page 14: American penpals

Some activities that we do

Every month the teachers select some students from ESO, upper secondary education and “catering services” to be the student of the month. These students are selected for their personality and their good acts.

Every Wednesday and Thursday we have interesting chats with Manuel (our native teacher) during the second break.

And on special days, like Halloween or Christmas, we do a lot of activities related to these themes.

Page 15: American penpals

Some projects we are part of

- Erasmus+ : it’s a European programme that helps students improve their knowledge of English.

- Activities with the school of our neighbourhood

- Exchanges with other schools of the area

Our questions about the United States1-How many hours do you have to stay in the high school?

2- What is the weather like there in McClouth and in the rest of the United States?

3-How big is your high school and how big are the high schools in the United States?

4-What is the main sport in the United States?

5-What is the typical food in the United States?

Page 17: American penpals

Our answers to your questionsWhat music is popular here? Here in Spain flamenco is very

typical but we, teenagers, usually listen to all kinds of music, and the most common for us is REGGAETON. Also we listen to English music, for example, Beyoncé (“ain’t your mama…”)

Do you also like reggaeton? What kind of music do you listen to?

Here you have some examples of famous Spanish songs nowadays:

-Reggaeton lento (CNCO)

-Despacito (LUIS FONSI AND DADDY YANKEE)

●How many hours do we spend in the school every day?

We remain in the school from 8:20 am to 2:25 pm. More or less six hours.

We have two breaks of fifteen minutes each one to eat something or play, for example. The people that are studying compulsory secondary education (E.S.O in Spain) have to stay in the school in the breaks, but the people studying upper secondary education (bachillerato o formación profesional, in Spanish) can go outside the centre.

●What is our favourite thing of Plasencia or Spain?

We like that here in Spain we have many old monuments because in the past many countries invaded Spain and they gave us a mixture of cultures.

In Plasencia we have, for example, the cathedral built in the year 1498, the medieval wall and many other ancient buildings

Page 20: American penpals

●What do we do in our free time?

The majority of us listen to music and go out with friends but also some people ride a horse , play basketball , dance , etc.

Are our hobbies different from yours?
