Dear WNIT Supporters:

This November/December issue of the WNIT Planner, is loaded with great program viewing suggestions.

I’m still getting compliments about the Ken Burns film, The Roosevelts, which WNIT – PBS Michiana – broadcast in mid-September. It exceeded my expectations. I couldn’t imagine myself watching a program of that length over so many days. Yet, I found myself riveted each night. I even missed Monday Night Football, although I did check the score a couple of times! The Roosevelts is another example of a program that you would not find anywhere else except PBS. It also has great future value as a learning resource in our history classrooms. Thank yourself. You make it happen by financially supporting WNIT.

Our management team at WNIT recently finished budgeting for our new fiscal year, which started October 1st. Our community Board of Directors approved this budget at their October board meeting. We plan to spend $800,000 for the purchase of programming this year plus another $350,000 to produce our local shows. That’s over $1-million for content. We’re able to do this because of you, thanks again!

Tax time is just around the corner. We hope you had a good year and are in the position of needing additional charitable contributions before year end. WNIT can help with that! Donate a vehicle, a time share condo, stocks and we always welcome cash. WNIT can put your donation to very good use to provide programs that inspire and educate thousands of Michiana people every day.

I hope everyone is aware of our second WNIT channel, “InFocus” on broadcast channel 34.2. We’ve been gradually making programming improvements offering your primary PBS programs at alternative times, and adding many programs not available on WNIT HD, broadcast channel 34.1. These added options are just another reason to watch and support the WNIT channels – PBS Michiana.

There are a number of special holiday programs coming up. We hope these programs will provide some special moments for you and your family. Among all the specials, you will find one produced locally at Goshen College.

Have a wonderful holiday season everyone!

Best wishes,

Greg Giczi President & General Manager

Bing Crosby (May 3, 1903-October 14, 1977) was, without a doubt, the most popular and inf luential multi-media star of the first half of the 20th century. For more than three decades, through radio, film, televi-sion and records, he reigned supreme.

The new documentary American Masters: Bing Crosby Rediscovered explores the life and legend of this iconic performer, revealing a man far more complex than his public persona. Crosby’s estate granted American Masters unprecedented access to the entertainer’s personal and professional archives, including never-before-seen home movies, Dictabelt recordings, photos and more. Narrated by Stanley Tucci, the film features new interviews with all surviving members of Crosby’s

immediate family — wife Kathryn, daughter Mary and sons Harry and Nathaniel. The film reveals Crosby’s struggles with his first wife, Dixie Lee, and their sons Gary, Dennis, Phillip and Lindsay.

“We naturally think of Bing at Christmastime, but with more No. 1 recordings than anyone, it is easy to overlook all of his other achieve-ments. Thankfully, this film delves deeply into all of his remarkable work, and will surprise many view-ers with a unique perspective on his private life,” says Michael Kan-tor, executive producer of American Masters.

Albert L. Gutierrez

WNIT is very pleased to shine the Supporter Spotlight on Albert L. Gutierrez, President and CEO of Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center. Al currently serves on the Board of Directors and is the Co-Chair of the Strategic Planning Task Force here at WNIT. In addition, Al has been a constant supporter of WNIT through underwriting of programs, as a Director’s Circle member and an overall friend of public television.

Under Al’s leadership, SJRMC has made a meaningful difference in the Michiana community. Through donations of land, hospital equipment, money and other countless efforts, Al’s guidance and vision have helped SJRMC set the mark as not only a medical industry leader, but a true partner in the nine counties they currently serve.

WNIT salutes Albert L. Gutierrez for his sustained support.
