The Begin of Success

The end of the glory

Abstract expressionism grew up in New York in 40's and 50's. It was the theme the most accepted for a group of artist who hadmuch in common like to commit a lot of expressive out with profound emotion and universal themes.

Abstract expressionism gave birth to surrealism which translate post-war mood, anxiety and trauma. The popular artist wereJackson Pollock, Mark Rothko and Willem de Kooning.

In abstract expressionism, there was two broad groups : those who focused on a gestural application of paint and those whoused large areas of color as the bedrock of their composition.

Jackson Pollock was born on January28, 1912 in Cody (USA). He studies inNew York City and was influenced byPicasso and Muro. Pollock was intodifferent styles and in 1943, he had hisfirst one man show gallery in NewYork City. Yellow Islands

Yellow Islands was produced in one of Pollock's last productive years of painting.Made during a period when he was concentrating on black and white pictures. YellowIslands likely began as a purely black canvas. Swift and agressive gestures areinterposed with a large amount of black streaks that was clearly poured onto thecanvas while it was in a vertical position. After allowing a certain amount of stain,Pollock added areas of yellow and crimson with a brush on top of the black. He thenlifted the canvas upright while the paint was still wet, allowing it to run. I don't really

He often took hisartistic subjects from mythologyand Amertican history andfolklore. Lichtenstein took hisimagery from comics books andadvertissing. Roy Lichtenstein

Pop Art

He had a passion for both scienceand courics books.

By the mid 1960's , he was natinally knowand recognized as a leader in the Pop Art

Roy was born on October 27 1923 at Manathan in N-Y. He is the son of Milton Lichtensteinand Beatrice Werner Lichtenstein. He attended public school and studed at Art Student

League in 1940.Lichtenstein attended The Ohio State University in Colombus, Ohio. Hiscollege studies were interrupted in 1943, when he was drafted and sent to Europe for World

War 2.

In his teens , he became interested in Art.He died of compliocation from pneumonia atSeptember 29 1997 , at the age of 73 yearsin N-Y University Medial Center . Hismouvement was Pop Art , this mouvementwas born in the US in 50`s (1958). WithAndy Warhol , they were giant artist s of PopArt. First it appared in 50`s in Great-Britainand spread out the world so in the USA in1958. Lichtenstein became a leading figureof the NewPop Art Mouvement.Lichtenstein exhibited his art in galleries ,including in Cleveland and N-Y city in thelate 1940`s. In the 1950`s , he often took hisartistic subjcets from mythology and fromAmerican history and folklotr.Lichtenstein his imagery directly from comic books andadvertising other wooks of the 1960'sfeatured cartoon characters like MickeyMouse and Donald Suck andadvertisements for food and house holdproducts

Pop Art leave vivid colours forexample Popeye (1961). Popeye wasone of the very first Pop paintings thathis created in the summer of 1961.Hewould begin to focus on human figuresthat appeared in cartoons for exampleMickey and Donald, here Popeyeappared with is rival Bluto.Lichtensteinhas signed his name on the surface ofthe picture. Some have suggested thatPopeye's punch was intended as a slyresponse to one of the reigning ideasin contemporary art criticism that apicture's design should make animmediate visual impact. I choose thatbecause I see vivid colours which is acaracteristic of Pop Art .

The problem we all live with

The Problem we all live with was painted by Norman Rockwell in 1964. He used 3d painting andit's made on watercolor.Their shape is simple and the colours were dull. The texture is soft andit's really modern and realistic. In the background we can see a grey pavement. In the middle wecan see a black girl.On the right there are two policemen and onthe left there are also two othermembers of immigration services. At the top ,the beige wall contrast with the colour of the girl.In the middlethere is a black girl wearing a white dress and white shoes and she is called 'RubieBridge'.On the wall it's written 'nigger' and someone intended to throw a tomato at the girl andmissed her so it crashed on the wall.Red deals with violence and blood. On the right, there aretwo policemen with grey unifrom and in the left , there are also two policemen with greyoutfit. The policemen are protecting her because it was in the period of the segregation and theblack didn't have the right to study with white people.
