AMD Green: Government and Industry Partnerships
Goal to Reduce Product Power ConsumptionDesign products with state-of-the-art power management technology in order to reduce power consumption and increase energy efficiency.
Partnerships Addressing Product Energy EfficiencyEnergy Star Program– Energy Star Partner: engagement with EPA on ENERGY STAR computer
specification since the mid 1990's - collaboration with customers and partners
– In 2001, AMD received ENERGY STAR Special Recognition for energy-efficient products and AMD PowerNow!™ power management technology
– In 2005, EPA awarded AMD's Cool'n'Quiet™ technology with EPA ENERGY STAR Special Recognition for advancement of energy-efficient computer technologies
Server Energy Efficiency– “Enterprise Servers and Data Centers: Opportunity for Energy Savings”:
hosted by AMD, Sun, EPA, and other IT leaders and aimed at drafting a protocol for measuring server energy efficiency
– AMD-sponsored Alliance To Save Energy study, “Energy Efficiency in Datacenters: A New Policy Frontier”
– Executive Datacenter roundtables with U.S. DOE: AMD Sunnyvale, AMD Austin and New York Stock Exchange (September 2007)
– The Green GridTM and related collaboration with key customers

What you can do to ensure you are buying the most efficient products for your Data Centre
• Follow World Class Procurement guidelines as set by NMSO
• Compare competitive OEM platforms for best Performance/Watt and make sure to measure power at the cord.
• Look for Energy Star® and/or EPEAT ratings for your systems
• Take advantage of what’s included in your server management technology today. For example, Turn on energy saving features such as AMD PowerNow! in your servers
• Consider Server Virtualization(VmWare) to reduce your datacenter footprint
• Consider replacing older less efficient server technology with Multi-core CPU technology to do more work per footprint
• Make sure to include Data Centre facilities team when choosing new Server technology rollouts.
Thank You – AMD’s Pillars
