Dear friends,

Very warm greetings to you. Here is a summary of the past two months.

From 21 to 24 July I was in Kenya for an evangelistic outreach for the first time. I was invited by Pastor Jasper Mose from the Deliverance Church in Kisumu on Lake Victoria. We met in February at the Rhema Winter Bible Seminar in Tulsa, where I had the opportunity to give a short testimony. Pastor Jasper Mose has built the largest church in Kisumu and regularly conducts evangelistic campaigns. In July I was his guest speaker. He told me that a total of 350 people had made a deci-sion for Jesus in the four days. He asked me to come back again in the future. If finances permit, I will go to Kenya from time to time.

From 24 to 28 August we then had another outreach in Ethiopia, again in a remote area in the far south. The place is called Amaro Kele and no one had gone there to hold a public evangelistic outreach before.

It took us two days to get there, and when we arrived we were told we could not have the football stadium. Owing to political unrest, our permission was with-drawn at short notice. The stage had already been set up and everything was ready. No church wanted to give us their premises out of fear of the government. One believer, however, offered that we could use his garden to hold services. He took the risk and assumed the responsibility. So we started in the garden and by the end several hundred people were gathered there. A total of 81 people made a decision for Jesus, several testified that they had been healed and many were baptized in the Holy Spirit. The political situation is currently unstable, which jeopardizes our evangelistic campaigns. Please pray for the situation to calm down again and for us to be able to proclaim the gospel unhindered.

For two years she had had a painful growth on her knee

and could hardly bend it. The growth has disappeared.

She had had gastritis and kidney disease since childhood. Healed!

Evangelistic outreach in Amaro Kele (Ethiopia) in a private garden

From 31 August to 5 September I then flew to Nigeria for the first time. I was to preach in two or three churches and, above all, I wanted to attend the Holy Ghost Convention of Bishop Waleoke in Ibadan, who was also celebrating his 60th birthday at that time. His guest speakers included Bishop Oyedepo, pastor of the church Winners Chapel in Lagos and Pastor Adeboye from the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) in Lagos. Pastor Oyedepo and Pastor Adeboye have the largest churches in Africa. Pastor Oyedepo has a church building that will hold 50,000 people (the largest church building in the world) and they have four services on Sundays. Now he is constructing a church building that has 100,000 seats. He has also established a Christian university attended by 6,000 students. The university is very up to date and has been rated the best university in Africa. Winners Chapel has churches in almost all African countries as well as in Europe and the USA.

Located on the way to Ibadan is the Redemption Camp, the headquarters of Pastor Adeboye’s RCCG. It cov-ers many square kilometres and is a town in its own right with banks, petrol stations, restaurants, apart-ment blocks, etc. In Lagos there are so many RCCG churches that no one need drive more than five min-utes to find one. RCCG has about 7 million members in Nigeria, which is 8.4% of all Nigerians eligible to vote, and about 14,000 church buildings (Pentecostals

For ten years she had been suffering severe headaches and

was hearing loud voices in her head. Both have left her now.

He had suffered pain all over his body since childhood.

All the pain has gone.

One ear was deaf – now she can hear with both ears.

One ear was deaf and she was also healed of hip trouble.

make up approximately 20% of those eligible to vote in Nigeria). Moreover, they have churches in 110 countries, 400 churches in Europe and just as many in America. At the Redemption Camp there is a hall that is one kilometre long and covers an area of 400,000m². It has space for a million people. Seeing something like that makes you speechless. Because this hall became too small for the monthly services, however, an even larger hall with an area of 800,000m² was built next to it. Now 3 million people can participate in the monthly services. Lagos has a population of 22 million people and Pastor Adeboye’s denomination is just one of many. TIME Magazine selected Pastor Adeboye as one of the 50 most influ-ential people in the world.

When I saw these huge halls, I thought: Noah built the largest ship of his day, Reinhard Bonnke built the largest tent in the world and Pastor Adeboye has built the largest hall in the world. Pastor Silas John, in whose church (Tabernacle of Grace) I preached in Lagos, told me, “A church with fewer than 10,000 members is a small church in Nigeria.”

At Pastor Waleoke’s Holy Ghost Convention, where Pastor Adeboye and Pastor Oyedepo preached, I felt as if I were among spiritual giants. I was the only white face at the conference and was repeatedly introduced as the guest from Germany. Twice I was asked to preach for 30 minutes, and for this I was also given a generous donation. It was point-less trying to turn it down; they insisted that I accept it. Perhaps one reason they have revival in Nigeria is that they have a culture of honour and appreciation towards God and God’s servants.

Bishop Waleoke is one of the spiritual giants in Nigeria. Pastor Adeboye is his spiritual father. (Giants give births to more giants.) The Vice President of Nigeria (who came to faith through Pastor Adeboye) came and honoured Bishop Waleoke on behalf of the govern-ment. Many local politicians and dignitaries came to show him their respect. Nigeria is blessed with revival. On Sunday morning I then preached at the third ser-vice at Bishop Taiwo Aelakim’s Victory International Church in Ibadan. I asked Bishop Oyedepo if he would also come to Germany and he said yes. Who knows, perhaps we will have the honour of welcoming him in Germany sometime. It would certainly be a great blessing for our country.

We have our next evangelistic outreach in Ethiopia from 21 to 25 September. This time we are on church premises. Please pray for our finances, for protection and for great courage and boldness in the Holy Spirit.

Best regards and God bless you!Ekkehard Hornburg

Psalm 91by Ekkehard Hornburg

About 100 years ago, during the First World War, the 91st US Infantry Brigade was preparing for combat in Europe. The commander, a committed Christian, gave each of his soldiers a small card on which Psalm 91 was printed, the number of the brigade. They agreed to read this psalm every day. After they had started praying this psalm every day, the 91st brigade was sent into three of the bloodiest battles of the First World War: Chateau Thierry, Belle Wood and the Argonne. Other US units that fought there suffered up to 90% casualties. Only the 91st brigade lost not one single soldier. We are living in uncertain times, but God has promised to be our refuge, our hiding place. In this place, the devil cannot find us. When God’s judgement came over the earth and it was destroyed by a flood, God had a safe place for Noah and his family. For us, too, there is a safe place like that. This place is called “In Christ”. In him we are protected and hidden from all the attacks of the evil one. The Bible says that our life is hidden with Christ in God. The safest place on earth is being in the will of God. God makes seven promises to those who love him and have made him their place of refuge: verses 14 to 16

1. I will rescue you! Call on me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you will honour me, Psalm 50:15. This poor man called, and the Lord heard him; he saved him out of all his troubles, Psalm 34:6. The righteous person may have many troubles, but the Lord delivers him from them all, Psalm 34:19. The name Jesus means saviour, and everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. Jesus is your saviour. He hears the weakest cry and hurries to your aid. He sends his angels to save you. An angel released Peter from prison and saved him from execution. An angel protected Daniel in the lions’ den. Angels are ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation, Hebrews 1:14.

2. I will protect you, for you acknowledge my name! The name of Jesus is our protection. For he will rescue you from every trap and protect you from deadly disease, Psalm 91:3 (NLT). Say the following: “This I declare about the Lord: He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; he is my God, and I trust him,” Psalm 91:2. The name of the Lord is a fortified tower; the righteous run to it and are safe. Me in Jesus and Jesus in God, that is a safe place.

3. I will answer you! Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know, Jer. 33:3. When Elijah prayed, God answered and the fire fell. When Solomon dedicated the temple and prayed, God answered and the glory of God filled the house and the fire of God fell. God answers prayer! Miracles happen when we pray.

4. I will be with you in trouble! “Last night an angel of the God to whom I belong and whom I serve stood beside me and said, ‘Do not be afraid, Paul.’” Not only are angels helping us, but God has also sent the Holy Spirit as our helper and advocate, John 15:26. He helps us and wants to show us the way out of all hardship.

5. I will honour you! Jesus said: My Father will honour the one who serves me, John 12:26. We honour God if we hear his word and do it. We honour the Holy Spirit if we listen to him and give him the place he deserves. If we are ashamed of God, his word and the Holy Spirit, then Jesus will disown us before his Father and the angels and we will have a low place in his kingdom.

6. I will satisfy you with long life! The first commandment with a promise is: Honour your father and mother so that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth. Someone may say: But I did not honour my parents and they are already dead; does that now mean I have to die sooner? No, for God is a God of forgiveness if we ask him. God wants to bless us with a long and fulfilled life until we are satisfied.

7. I will show you my salvation! Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God, Matt 5:8. Did I not tell you that if you believe, you will see the glory of God? John 11:40. God wants us to see and experience his glory and miracle-working power here and now. God promised to let Moses see his glory because Moses had found favour with God and God knew him by name, Exodus 33:17. You and I have also found favour with God through faith in Jesus. He knows us by name and we can see his glory.
