Saving Electricity

• Each year we use almost 2,000,000 KWH which is nearly 200,000 dollars in electricity bills

• By doing a few simple things, we can save over $30,000 a year.

Wind Power/Energy

• Clean energy and environmentally friendly• With our electricity reductions and the windmill,

we would only be paying for about 750,000 KWH of electricity.

• Energy generated during summer can be stored up for upcoming school year

• Turbines are efficient and reliable• They are safe and require little maintenance after

installation

Recycling

In 2006, Americans drank about 167 bottles of water each but only recycled an average of 23 percent. That leaves 38 billion water bottles in

landfills.

Plastic bottles can take up to 1000 years before they begin to decompose once buried.http://earth911.com/plastic/plastic-bottle-recycling-facts/

Recycling

•If we assume that each student uses two plastic bottles a week, we would waste over 86,000 bottles in one school year

•Recycling bins in classrooms will be cost free

What is compost?

•Compost is organic material that can be used as a soil modification or as a medium to grow plants.

How is compost made?

•By combining organic waste (Yard trimmings,Food wastes, Manure) into piles; adding bulking agents (wood chips) as necessary to accelerate the breakdown of organic materials; and allowing the finished material to stabilize and mature through a curing process

Compost can…

•Suppress plant diseases and pests.

•Reduce or eliminate the need for chemical fertilizers.

•Promote higher yields of agricultural crops

• 4 cases of paper for progress reports, report cards, and special announcements for each student every year

• 4 cases of paper costs the school about $120• We can certainly cut down on the amount of paper

we use.• Sapphire Parent Portal • Students can get e-mails

Conclusion

• Most of these ideas do not take much effort and could end up saving the district thousands of dollars.

• Our ideas are also great ways to save the environment which is something to be focused on in the upcoming years.
