A ll m en rec eiv ed con tro l d ie ts fo r an ave rag e of 7 d ay s fo l low ed by H CF d ietsfo r an av erage o f 16 day s. D iets w ere des ign ed to be w e igh t-m ain tain in g an d there w ere nosign ific an t al tera tio ns in b ody weight . T he dai ly do se of insu lin w a s low er for each pa tie n t on theHC F die t than on the con tro l d ie t. T he average in su l in d ose w as red uced from 26 3 units/d ay(m ean SEM ) on th e contro l d ie ts to 11 3 (P < 0 .00 1) o n th e H CF die ts.
