ALWAYS THINK ABOUT WHAT YOU ARE DOING WHEN USING A MICROSCOPE!
Microscope Care & Handling
So why do I need to know how to use a microscope?
Because microscopes cost several hundred dollars, it is very important to always practice safe handling and care when using a microscope.
What happens if I break a microscope?
How do you safely transport a microscope?
If the microscope has a built in light, gather up the power cord to keep it from tripping or pulling.
Always carry a microscope with 2 hands – one hand holds the neck and one supports the bottom base.
What else do I need
ALWAYS WALK WHEN CARRYING THE MICROSCOPE!
Remember to NEVER SWING it!
This makes Miss Lamb sad & your parents mad…
Never use tissue or a paper towel to clean a microscope lens. They contain fibers that can scratch the lens.
Never touch the lenses with your fingers. The oils will smudge the glass. If left on too long, it can permanently ruin the glass.
How do I properly care for a microscope?
What else do I need to remember?
Water and dust are two huge enemies of the microscope.
Keep all water away from the microscope. Be sure to wipe up any water that falls on the scope.
Always cover the microscopes with a dust cover when they are not in use.
When you are finished with the microscope…
Rotate the nosepiece so that it’s on the lowest power objective
Roll the nosepiece so that it’s down near the stage
Place the dust cover on it
How do I clean up & store the microscope?
