Resource efficiency as a key factor
The aluminium market is currently undergoing a period of upheaval. The global production landscape is changing, the wide range on offer and the concomitant price develop-ments are altering the nature of the business. Yet there is still every reason for optimism: Because there may well be an overabundant supply, yet there is also steadily growing demand. The lightweight construction megatrend is provid-ing aluminium with excellent growth opportunities – assum-ing the industry succeeds in organising production and the whole materials cycle efficiently. In the long run, a lean and efficient value chain will decide on the competitiveness of the material.
ALUMINUM 2016 shows how optimistic and agile the industry operates: Eight months before the show, 670
international exhibitors have already registered for the world’s largest industry event. With this, more than 90 percent of the planned exhibition space in six halls (9 – 14) is already occupied. The theme pavilions and the Innovation Areas are experiencing a high demand. ALUMINIUM is well on its way to enjoy the same success as in 2014.

Surface treatment and finishing of aluminium is an essential part of the production and value chain. Possible applications extend far beyond the common applications in the fields of architecture and design and comprise automotive, aerospace, electronics or mechanical engineering, among others.
Hall 12 is the central point of contact for all trade visitors looking for solutions and technologies in these areas. It is “the place to be” for all those offering products and technologies that are part of the process chain of the surface treatment of aluminium: from cleaning to mechanical treatment, dyes, anodising, galvanising or chromating through to machinery and plant used in this area.
Pavilion for young innovative enterprises – get yourself promoted
ALUMINIUM 2016 will once again feature a joint stand for young innovative companies. It is being supported by the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology (BMWi).
Young and innovative German companies have the chance to present their products at international leading trade fairs in a cost-efficient way due to the support of the Ministry.

With the support of the VOA (Association of German Aluminium Surface Refiners) and GSB International (Quality Assur-ance Association for the Coating of Aluminium Components) the ALUMINIUM is providing an approximately 900 sqm joint stand for association members and all interested companies in the form of the “Competence Centre Surface Technology”. Companies wishing to take part book a full-service package which includes ancillary costs and other additional services. The package includes a fully fitted stand, information counter with hostess, joint stand with catering (including refreshment voucher) and additional target group-oriented marketing.
Besides booking their individual stands within the Competence Centre Surface Technology, GSB and VOA members now also have the opportunity to take part in a joint stand with limited costs. The scale is smaller, the equipment simpler and the whole package is more cost-effective.

The 10th Awards ceremony will have a more open and international outlook: this will include the partners, the jury and the submissions. NEW: The entries may be available on the world market from 2016, and they are no longer confined to the European market. The established categories of the previous years are being retained:

Designers and engineers up to the age of 30 who wish to pre-sent their products, projects or ideas to the aluminium industry free of charge can compete for the Young Talents Award.

Aluminium is a metal that has found its way into many areas of everyday life. You find it as castings, sheets, profiles and forgings in transport, building and construction, mechanical engineering and precision mechanics, electrical engineering, food industry, kitchen, household ware and metal goods. In many cases aluminium-specific joining or surface technologies are applied to enable the light metal to fulfill special requirements.
Aluminium is a perfect recycling material. Modern sorting, pre-treatment and remelting technologies are the prerequisite to ensure a closed aluminium loop in order to contribute to the raw material supply and a resource efficient society of today and tomorrow.
GDA Gesamtverband der Aluminiumindustrie (German aluminium association) together with Reed Exhibitions are planning and organizing the conference accompanying ALUMINIUM 2016 under the title “Aluminium – Material for the Future” presentations are planned on the subjects of:
• Plant and equipment
• Automotive
• Surface
• Recycling technologies
• Aluminium markets
Specialists from companies, research institutes and univer-sities are warmly invited to submit presentations on these subjects. The submitted abstracts will be examined by a programme committee, which may also permit other sub-ject areas. Proposals that are accepted will be published in the proceedings. Papers and presentations should generally be written in English.
For this year’s Congress we will have simultaneous transla-tion into English and German.
The submission deadline for the abstracts is 28 April 2016.

Between the 7th and 9th of June, ExpoAlumínio 2016 – 6th International Aluminum Expo and ALUMINIUM BRAZIL will be the meeting place for professionals from across the aluminium value chain and consuming sectors, such as packaging, construction, transportation, machi-nery and equipment, and consumer goods, among others. The two events will bring together more than 170 dome-stic and international brands and host more than 12,000 visitors at the São Paulo Expo Exhibition & Convention Center. Concurrent to the trade fairs the 7th International Aluminum congress will take place, promoted by Reed Exhibitions Alcantara Machado and carried out by Abal – Brazilian Aluminum Association.
The reasons for visiting or exhibiting at the event are numerous, the trade show’s director of ExpoAlumínio Alexandre Telles explains: “At ExpoAlumínio it’s possible to build relationships with buyers and decision-makers from Brazilian companies and from abroad. At the last edition, for example, 89 % of visitors said they were satis-fied with the event, and 80 % said that they had relevant decision-making power.” More than 40 companies have already confirmed their presence this year, among them Latasa Reciclagem, Nacional Gás, Novelis do Brasil, Alcoa Aluminio, Companhia Brasileira de Alumínio, Alcast do Brasil, and Norsk Hydro.

ALUMINUM USA –successful premiere with good prospects
ALUMINUM USA celebrated its premiere at the Cobo Convention Center in Detroit from November 11 – 12, 2015 and was a great success with good prospects for the future. 172 exhibitors from 20 countries showcased lightweight manufacturing solutions. Besides key US players, numerous companies from Canada, Europe and Asia attended at ALUMINUM USA – from suppliers of raw material, semi-finished and finished to producers of ma-chinery, plant and equipment for aluminum processing and manufacturing.
920 visitors from the aluminum industry as well as the automotive, transport, building and packaging industries, came to the first edition. The exhibitors were practically unanimous in their conclusions: with ALUMINUM USA, a new trade fair was launched that has the potential for long-term success.
