Trial swatch serviceAlternative Flooring supplies individual design and colour swatches on request. Simply email or telephone with your request and your border or flooring swatch will be sent out immediately. A charge may be applicable for samples.

A long and happy lifeWe want your flooring to enjoy a long and happy life. That’s why we use an environmentally friendly solution called INTEC. It’s specially developed for natural floor coverings. We apply it before delivery and it won’t alter the colour, texture or flame-retardancy of your flooring. It will also reduce the impact of sloppy-coffee spills and prolong the life of your flooring.

Pain-free fittingIt’s best to use a professional fitter for both home and contract fitting. Using a recommended underlay is also a good idea. Leave your natural flooring to acclimatise for 48 hours before fitting. Note that some types of natural flooring are better suited to some locations than others. Check the recommendations in the brochure or the label on the back of our swatches.

QuirkyQuirky is made in Britain on traditional wilton looms and sold by the linear metre. Carpet width: 69cm as standard.Custom made rugs are available, with a selected range of bindings. Prices on application. Quirky can be joined and used wall to wall or as a rug. However the runners would need to be seamed together by a qualified carpet fitter.

‘We mixed and matched patterns, base tones and textures in the hall and stairs to create contrast and interest. We’re not adventurous usually, but the results have been outstanding.’Tim and Katy from South London wanted to create flow between the downstairs and upstairs. Rather than simply repeat the ‘Wool Romance’ carpet on the stairs, they created a continuity by complimenting the muted base colour from the hall with the Rock ‘n’ Roll ‘Tutti Frutti’ runner used on the stairway.

The resulting scheme now connects the spaces smoothly and is dynamic without being distracting.

‘We would never have mixed and matched such different styles on our stairs and hall, but we’re so glad we took inspiration from Alternative Flooring.’Like many of our customers, Mark and Debbie were more enterprising in their approach than they thought. It’s important to have strong base tones from which a more-radical design can spring. We chose Quirky Tess for the landing, which leads harmoniously into the Quirky Skinny. The identical borders and colour tones provide the continuity, while the pattern provides a stunning contrast.

Iain and Becky take their holidays in exotic spots like Africa. They wanted to bring a fun feel to their Edinburgh home. They opted for a Quirky Skinny Natural rug for its style and homeliness. “We love the way the rug is treated as a large floor covering, not just a small section, yet we have the freedom to take it up and down,” said Becky.

Graphic designer Alex likes her workspace to be as cool and clean as her work. She wanted a bold statement set against the muted minimalism of her studio and selected Blocstripe. “I love the way the lines make my workspace look bigger. Choosing my own border was perfect” said Alex. Using lines helps create a sense of space and depth. Blocstripe is great for this, but our Pinstripe or Iconic Stripe can be just as effective for a more subtle approach.

Giving each room a unique character – one that can be changed with the seasons – is one of the beauties of the four-stage Alternative Flooring ‘make me a rug’ service. Four customers agreed and transformed their rooms according to their very different personalities.

Allan commutes daily from his home in rural Northamptonshire to his stressful City job. When he gets home, he enjoys the sense of rustic calm that his Sisal Malay Tiger’s Eye rug provides. “It’s transformed our room and transports me to another world every evening. Having the flexibility to choose my own border style was great, too. I went for something equally calming,” said Allan.

Beth’s Brighton pad is as fun and funky as its gets. She wanted a retro feel to chime with her wall art and whitewashed floorboards in her hallway entrance. She opted for our Quirky Tess range with a single border. “Being able to choose whatever size I wanted really appealed to my creative side,” said Beth. A long and happy lifeWe want your flooring to enjoy a long and happy life. That’s why we use an environmentally friendly solution called INTEC. It’s specially developed for natural floor coverings. We apply it before delivery and it won’t alter the colour, texture or flame-retardancy of your flooring. It will also reduce the impact of sloppy-coffee spills and prolong the life of your flooring.

Pain-free fittingIt’s best to use a professional fitter for both home and contract fitting. Using a recommended underlay is also a good idea. Leave your natural flooring to acclimatise for 48 hours before fitting. Note that some types of natural flooring are better suited to some locations than others. Check the recommendations in the brochure or the label on the back of our swatches.

QuirkyQuirky is made in Britain on traditional wilton looms and sold by the linear metre. Carpet width: 69cm as standard.Custom made rugs are available, with a selected range of bindings. Prices on application. Quirky can be joined and used wall to wall or as a rug. However the runners would need to be seamed together by a qualified carpet fitter.
