Purpose ?Purpose ?
• Crime Prevention
• Disaster Response
• Neighborhood Resources
• Social Camaraderie
• Lost & Found – Pets & Plumbers
• Politics & Social Issues
Crime PreventionCrime Prevention
• BreaWatch set the standard– Contact #s by name and street address– Everyone can reach everyone who is listed
(unlike a phone tree or other chains)– Automated (minimal work for 'leader')
• I propose we replicate AND take it further
Disaster Response &Disaster Response &Neighborhood ResourcesNeighborhood Resources
• Names and ages of residents
• Any challenges: health, language, mobility
• Any pets
• Special Skills: Trained in CERT? First Aid? CPR? Nurse? Firefighter? Builder?...
• Tools: Generator, HAM radio, ....
Disaster Response & Disaster Response & Neighborhood Resources cont.Neighborhood Resources cont.
• Emergency Plan (for the block?)
• Other resources for urgent but not emergent situations:– ID people/homes where a kid can safely go if
locked out or in need of help
The Other PurposesThe Other Purposes
• A number of e-lists and 'groups' exist to handle the social and community issues
• But sometimes the signal-to-noise ratio becomes skewed and people opt-out
• I propose to limit the watch site to emergent situations as well as preparation and planning, including online training
• Everything online, available when YOU need it– Presentations – Step-by-step guidelines and suggestions
• On an individual “watch” site or ACONA site
Few if any MeetingsFew if any Meetings
• Is the web site safe?– Who can see my info?– How do you know they're legit?– Hackers?
• Fear of theft of resources in emergency
