• Some manageable pain is normal post-surgery but if you experience extreme or on-going pain following your procedure, contact your dentist.

• To help alleviate the swelling, take a damp, cold compress and Place it on the side of the face where the surgery was performed.

• When brushing your teeth avoid the surgical area for the first two weeks.

• Use an antibacterial mouthwash (but ask your dentist which one to use).

• After this initial period, a toothbrush with ‘soft’ bristles can be used for gentle cleaning around the surgical area.

• Avoid coffee, alcohol and smoking for 2-3 days after the procedure for better wound healing and to reduce the risk of post-surgical complications.

After your surgery, it is essential to go to all of your follow-up dental appointments, even if you think you are healing and recovering well.
