Alpine Shire Welcome to Alpine Air Waves — Winter Edion, August 2015 Latest News from Alpine Radio Commiee As many of you will be aware, the last few weeks have been a very difficult me for the staon with illness and injuries, compounded by the fact that quite a few volunteer presenters were away on holidays. With Wendy Blake, Dick Puyfoot and Nick Brown all away chasing sunnier climes, our President, Life Member and main breakfast show presenter Bill Suon (Whiskers) suffered a major stroke and is currently in rehabilitaon in hospital in Wodonga. Bill is showing improvements every day and we wish him and Yvonne all the very best in his recovery. Of course, Bill’s illness meant that his lovely spouse, our Staon Manager Yvonne, was called away and it was leſt to a small band of volunteers to man up and run the ship. Wendy and Dick came back from holiday and they and Scoe from the commiee jumped in and started to organise fill-ins for many of the programs. They organised a set of whiteboards to display all our program mes, and work out where fill-ins were required. Wendy also organised two meengs for volunteers and presenters. And then in the icy, slippery condions of a Mount Beauty winter, Wendy, filling in as Staon Manager, slipped on the deck at home, and broke her ankle, necessitang a few days in hospital. Wendy is now geng around in a moon boot and a wheelchair. It’s a hazardous job, this Staon Manager posion (Smile). As I write this, order has been prey well restored, and a big thank you to Wendy, Dick, Scoe, Rolf, Peter Rogers, Teresa Green and a host of others who filled in where they could and kept us on air with as lile disrupon as possible. Harrietville Harrietville was off the air for a while, and our terrific technical gurus, Rob O’Connor, Ken Halse (a new volunteer, welcome Ken!), and Dick had to replace an antenna in Harrietville. This was completed on Sunday 10th August and Harrietville is now able to tune in again to Alpine Radio on 94.5FM. Thanks, guys, for a job well done in wintry condions up on Cavalier Spur overlooking Harrietville. Programming We have moved a couple of programs around, but apart from that, there are not too many changes to our Program Guide. The latest Program Guide is aached. We sll have some spare spots (but not many) and could do with more country music programs or, in fact, any music genre programs. Contact Staon Manager on 5754 4554 if you would like to do some presenng and we can organise for training and informaon to help you get started. We also need some “fill-in” presenters, people who might not want to commit to a weekly program, but can fill-in when someone is away… most important as we found out over the last few weeks! Alpine Radio AGM Alpine Radio’s Annual General Meeng will be held at 7.00pm on Tuesday 1st September 2015 in the Senior Cizen’s Centre, Mount Beauty. All members are invited. Light refreshments, tea & coffee will be served aſter the meeng. (Please see enclosed official AGM noce).

Latest News from Alpine Radio Committee

As many of you will be aware, the last few weeks have been a very difficult time for the station with illness and injuries, compounded by the fact that quite a few volunteer presenters were away on holidays.

With Wendy Blake, Dick Puttyfoot and Nick Brown all away chasing sunnier climes, our President, Life Member and main breakfast show presenter Bill Sutton (Whiskers) suffered a major stroke and is currently in rehabilitation in hospital in Wodonga.

Bill is showing improvements every day and we wish him and Yvonne all the very best in his recovery.

Of course, Bill’s illness meant that his lovely spouse, our Station Manager Yvonne, was called away and it was left to a small band of volunteers to man up and run the ship. Wendy and Dick came back from holiday and they and Scottie from the committee jumped in and started to organise fill-ins for many of the programs. They organised a set of whiteboards to display all our program times, and work out where fill-ins were required. Wendy also organised two meetings for volunteers and presenters.

And then in the icy, slippery conditions of a Mount Beauty winter, Wendy, filling in as Station Manager, slipped on the deck at home, and broke her ankle, necessitating a few days in hospital. Wendy is now getting around in a moon boot and a wheelchair. It’s a hazardous job, this Station Manager position (Smile).

As I write this, order has been pretty well restored, and a big thank you to Wendy, Dick, Scottie, Rolf, Peter Rogers, Teresa Green and a host of others who filled in where they could and kept us on air with as little disruption as possible.

Harrietville Harrietville was off the air for a while, and our terrific technical gurus, Rob

O’Connor, Ken Halse (a new volunteer, welcome Ken!), and Dick had to replace an antenna in Harrietville. This was completed on Sunday 10th August and Harrietville is now able to tune in again to Alpine Radio on 94.5FM. Thanks, guys, for a job well done in wintry conditions up on Cavalier Spur overlooking Harrietville.

Programming We have moved a couple of programs around, but apart from that, there are not

too many changes to our Program Guide. The latest Program Guide is attached. We still have some spare spots (but not many) and could do with more country music programs or, in fact, any music genre programs. Contact Station Manager on 5754 4554 if you would like to do some presenting and we can organise for training and information to help you get started. We also need some “fill-in” presenters, people who might not want to commit to a weekly program, but can fill-in when someone is away… most important as we found out over the last few weeks!

Tuesday 1st September 2015 in the Senior Citizen’s Centre, Mount Beauty. All members are invited. Light refreshments, tea & coffee will be served after the meeting. (Please see enclosed official AGM

Don’t forget we now have our own Alpine Radio Facebook page. Look us up and “like” us on Facebook to be kept up to date with the latest happenings on Alpine Radio. There’s a link to our Facebook page on our website www.alpineradio.com.au. We have over 232 “likes” on our Facebook page.

Signage Our signage is now complete with new signs erected on AGL

land just near the studio, and also on Scott McKillop’s property in Dederang (thank you to Scott for letting us put the sign up), alerting people driving through to tune to 96.5FM. Thanks to Rod Hyde and Mark Hardidge for helping with installation—could not have done this without you!

Our sign outside the Visitor Info Centre, Mount Beauty, thanks to AGL for permission to erect the sign on their property.

You may have noticed some signs along major roads alerting people to tune to our frequencies in the event of an emergency—VicRoads put those signs in the two valleys, and funded the installation after we paid for the signs to be painted.

Spring/Summer

We are looking forward to the warmer weather, when we can run some outside broadcasts and also invite some of the schools in the district to send some students for training and broadcasting and learning all about community radio.

Mount Beauty Music Festival

In April we promoted the Mount Beauty Music Festival; well done to the festival committee for a great three days—stunning acts and so well organised. Dick Puttyfoot interviewed poets Greg North and Rob Barratt on the Sunday morning during the festival—here’s a photo of these two funny men being interviewed—they also quoted some of their poetry on-air!

Alpine Radio AGM

Don’t forget, Alpine Radio’s AGM will be held at 7.00pm on Tuesday 1st September

in the Senior Citizen’s Centre, Mount Beauty. All welcome !

Membership Renewals

Membership renewals are due now and an application form for renewal is attached to this newsletter. Please renew as soon as

possible as we rely on sponsorships, grants and memberships to pay our bills and stay on

air.
