In January 2010, Sankara Nethralaya decided to scale upthe Academic activities through setting up of “The SankaraNethralaya Academy”. The Sankara Nethralaya Academywould function as a unit of Medical Research Foundation.

The SN Academy is avowed to employ a system ofeducating people imparting knowledge through instructioncourses, training classes, and usher in newertraining/teaching methodologies including the use of IT.The objective is to teach courses that deal with A to Z inhealthcare services.

As part of the SN Academy, Certificates and fellowshipsprogrammes of various durations would be awarded at theend of successful completion of different courses.Importance to practical training would be of utmostimportance definitely necessitating smaller number ofstudents per class and longer duration of courses. BothDistance education programme and residential form ofeducation would be imparted.

The program enables to understand the value, purpose and use ofmedical record maintenance in hospitals. It also helps one to upgrade

medical service by usage of electronic medical record systems

(microfilming). It helps prepare and analyze the status reports of a

patient's condition The course content for the program include

medico legal ethics in medical practice to maintain confidentiality of

information like communication letters and medical negligence for

legal purposes .It exposes the individual to understand general and

medical insurance acts of the Government of India.
