The MIL-DTL-38999 Series I connector is a bayonet coupling subminiature configurationwith high contact density, ideal for smaller wire gauge applications.

The MIL-DTL-38999 Series II connector is a bayonet coupling subminiatureconfiguration with

a lower profile design accomplished by using a shorter socket contact than employedby the Series I and III.

Insert arrangements for all MIL-DTL-38999 Series I, II and III are the same. For Series I and II, the insertarrangements are made by combining shell size (first two numbers) and the insert arrangement number(last two numbers). For example, a MS27468T23F35PC connector combines shell size 23 with the insert

35 for a 2335 insert arrangement in the MIL-DTL-38999 insert arrangement. For Series III, the insertarrangements are made by converting the shell size code to its shell size number (first two numbers) andcombining it with the insert arrangement number (last two numbers). The MIL-DTL-38999 Series I connectors are bayonet coupling subminiatureconfiguration with a high contact density which is ideal for smaller wire gaugeapplications. The Series I is environmental resistant and 100 percent scoop proof.Series I is available in nine shell sizes with five receptacle configurations and standardRFI plugs. Series I has 54 insert arrangements using 3 to 128 contacts in 22D, 20, 16,and 12 gauge (and combinations of these) terminating wire gauge sizes 28 through 12.

MIL-DTL-38999 Series II

The MIL-DTL-38999 Series II connectors are bayonet coupling subminiature configuration witha low profile design using a shorter socket contact than used by Series I and III. This series isused for instrumentation applications where space is at a premium. Series II is not scoopproof. Series II is available in nine shell sizes with five receptacle configurations and standardor RFI plugs. 54 insert arrangements using 3 to 128 contacts terminating wire gauge sizes 28through 12. The hard plastic socket interface features the chamfered conical entry that aids inproper contact mating. The fluorosilicone interfacial seal has conical risers around each pincontact that compress into the socket interface, assuring the seal of the mating surface.Cadmium over Nickel, Anodic and electroless nickel finishes are available for aluminium shells.

Series III also has metric accessorythreads for greater strength and backshell support. These environmental resistantconnectors are 100 percent scoop proof. Series III is available in nine shell sizes withtwo receptacle configurations and a standard plug. Series III has 55 insertarrangements using 3 to 128 contacts. Contacts 22D, 20, 16, 12 gauge terminate wiregauge sizes 28 through 12. The hard plastic socket interface features the chamferedconical entry that aids in proper contact mating. The fluorosilicone resilientelastomers provide superior interface protection when exposed to a wide variety of fluids.The rear grommets incorporate redundant rear wiper seals around each wire. The hardplastic socket interface features the chamfered conical entry aiding in proper contactmating. The non-conductive black anodize surface treatment on the aluminum shells makesan exceptionally hard finish that prolongs the life of the connector.

MIL-DTL-26482 SERIES II POLARIZING POSITIONS

The normal position (N) has theinsert centerline that coincideswith the centerline of themaster keyway of the shell. Thealternate clocking positions(W,X,Y, and Z) are done byrotating the pin insertclockwise. The socket insert isrotated counter clockwise. (INTERMATEABLE WITH MIL-DTL-26482 SOLDER PINRECEPTACLES)

SPECIALS

The three insert arrangement layouts shown are identical to the MIL-DTL-26482 SeriesII, but are not qualified to the specification. The shell configuration has been slightlyaltered to allow these rear release, crimp contacts plugs to intermate with theapplicable MIL-DTL-26482 Series I solder pin receptacles. The special design originatedfor NASA and is used by various commercial aircraft avionic and payload equipmentapplications. Their #20 gauge pin and socket contacts are not qualified to the MIL-C-39029 specification, but use the same crimp tooling, insertion and removal tools.
