Among other things, Fortnum & Mason is famous for selling fine and rare teas. This experience will see you learn more about the history of the drink, following its journey from leaf to the shop floor, with tastings hosted by the emporium’s in-house expert ‘tearistas’. Following this one-hour-long exploration, you are then invited to enjoy a delicious Afternoon Tea and glass of Champagne, in the iconic Diamond Jubilee Tea Salon. What’s more, you will also be gifted with a goody-bag of loose tea and the perfect biscuits to enjoy at home.

Known as the ‘World’s Most Famous Cornershop’, Fortnum & Mason first opened its doors in London’s Piccadilly in 1707, and remains an essential destination for High Tea, extraordinary food and exceptional service. The Diamond Jubilee Tea Salon was named in honour of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s visit in 2012, when she formally opened the room.

Found on the seventh-floor Sky Garden, at The Stratford Hotel, Allegra is one of London’s hottest restaurant openings of late. Cardmembers are invited to enjoy it for themselves, with a glass of Champagne on arrival, ahead of of a three-course menu, designed by acclaimed head chef Patrick Powell. Served with wine, the meal offers dishes such as a starter of confit chicken wing, parmesan dumplings, wild mushrooms and sorrel; a main of aged Gloucester Old Spot pork, salsify black pudding, fennel jam and liquorice. Desserts, meanwhile, include treacle cake, cranberry and caramelised pastry ice-cream.

The Stratford Hotel comes from the same team behind Chiltern Firehouse and St Pancras Renaissance Hotel. With a dining room conceived by Space Copenhagen (which also designed Noma), the concept is all about convivial hospitality with inventive dishes using ingredients from the hotel’s own organic farm in Kent. With one of the UK’s leading actresses, Lesley Manville, in the title role, The Visit or The Old Lady Comes to Call is sure to be one of the National Theatre’s most successful productions this season. Taking place in the authentic Spanish-styled dining room of Ibérica’s flagship restaurant, we are delighted to invite you to embark on a wine-tasting tour of Espanaverde, the north-east region of Spain. Led by Nacho Ordiz, of Ibérica restaurants, and drinks educator Alison Taffs, of The Grape Society, your journey will begin in the verdant Asturias area, where Ibérica’s culinary director, Nacho Manzano, has his home and a Michelin-starred restaurant.

Cardmembers will explore food pairings for the five wines, with a variety of regions represented in dishes such as grilled squid with ink sauce, rice & lemon oil and chorizo from Asturias. Sidra (Asturian Cider) and the wines of Galicia, such as Albarino and Valdeorras, will be among those available to try. Red varieties, made from the native Mencia grape, and authentic Orujo brandies, will also be showcased.

Finally, the evening will end with a flourish with the theatrical Queimada tradition of lighting the flaming Orujo punch, with lemon peel, coffee and cinnamon. Adding a touch of magic to proceedings, incantations are said to transfer the special powers in the drink to those who taste it.

The noted Indian restaurant in Mayfair is inspired by the elite clubs of India, where members of high society socialise, eat, drink and play sport. Now re-opening after a refurbishment, the restaurant will continue to serve its tandoori and the boldly-spiced ‘chatpatta’ sharing dishes (or street food) that it is famous for. On the ground floor, Gymkhana’s refreshed interiors draw on the traditional style of elite ‘gymkhana’ clubs, as well as the residential mansions of Kolkata and Pondicherry. Meanwhile, the lower ground floor has been re-modelled allowing for a more buzzy club-lounge feel, showcasing Indian artwork and inspired by north Indian architecture.
