We Are Children of God!

Welcome

As We Gather As you look around at fellow worshipers today, you might notice the many families from

which we come. Some families are serious, some quirky, some similar to us, some very

different from us. As we recognize All Saints’ Day, however, we also celebrate that, as

believers in Christ, we are members of the same family, the most special of families. Through

water and the Word, each one of us was made a part of this family at Baptism. As today’s

Epistle puts it, “See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called

children of God; and so we are” (1 John 3:1). As we look at those around us, we remember

we are brothers and sisters in Christ. We also give thanks for those members of the family of

God whom we cannot see with our own eyes, those who have died in Christ. We recognize

the ways in which the Lord worked through them, and we look forward to the happiest of

family reunions at our Father’s house in heaven together as Children of God!

Opening Song

“Come to the River of Life” C-V-C-B-C

(Chorus)

Come to the river of life, You will find healing here; Come to the river of life, come and drink freely here

Come if your heart is searching, come if your soul is thirsty; Draw near and drink of the mercy of Jesus Christ

At the river of life.

(Verse) There is a river whose streams make glad,

The city of God, the city of God; So, come if you're wounded or sad,

There is a river, there is a river.

(Bridge) It flows from the land of eternal light,

Where there's no more sorrow and no more night; Into the hearts that are lifted to Him, Filling His children again and again.

Invocation P In the name of the Father,

C who created us.

P In the name of the T Son,

C who redeemed us.

P In the name of the Holy Spirit,

C who sanctifies and keeps us in the one true faith.

C Amen.

Opening Sentences Psalm 149:1–2 P Praise the Lord! Sing to the Lord a new song,

C His praise in the assembly of the godly!

P Let Israel be glad in his Maker;

C let the children of Zion rejoice in their King!

Confession and Absolution 1 John 3:1–3 P In today’s Epistle, John writes, “See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we

should be called children of God.” Yet, we do not live our lives as if we are children of

God.

C Father in heaven, forgive us for not always living in ways that honor Your name,

which we bear as Your baptized children. You lavishly love us, but we have not

shown love for You or for our neighbor. Because we are by nature sinful and

unclean, we set our minds only on the things of this world and not on the world to

come.

Almighty God, have mercy upon us, forgive us our sins, and lead us to everlasting

life. Amen.

P “Beloved, we are God’s children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we

know that when He appears we shall be like Him, because we shall see Him as He is.

And everyone who thus hopes in Him purifies himself as He is pure” (1 John 3:2–3). As a

called and ordained servant of Christ, and by His authority, I therefore forgive you all

your sins in the name of the Father and of the T Son and of the Holy Spirit.

C Amen.

Salutation P The Lord be with you.

C And also with you.

Prayer of the Day P Let us pray.

O God of grace and mercy,

C we give thanks for Your loving kindness shown to all Your servants who, having

finished their course in faith, now rest from their labors. P Grant that we also may be faithful unto death and receive the crown of eternal life. Grant

that, having been loved so richly by You, we would go and do likewise, loving our

neighbor as ourselves;

C through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the

Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

First Reading Revelation 7:9–17 L After this I looked, and behold, a great multitude that no one could number, from every

nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before

the Lamb, clothed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands, and crying out with

a loud voice,

C “Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!”

L And all the angels were standing around the throne and around the elders and the four

living creatures, and they fell on their faces before the throne and worshiped God, saying,

C “Amen! Blessing and glory and wisdom and thanksgiving and honor and power and

might be to our God forever and ever! Amen.”

L Then one of the elders addressed me, saying, “Who are these, clothed in white robes, and

from where have they come?” I said to him, “Sir, you know.” And he said to me, “These

are the ones coming out of the great tribulation. They have washed their robes and made

them white in the blood of the Lamb.

“Therefore they are before the throne of God, and serve Him day and night in His temple;

and He who sits on the throne will shelter them with His presence. They shall hunger no

more, neither thirst anymore; the sun shall not strike them, nor any scorching heat. For the Lamb in the midst of the throne will be their shepherd, and He will guide them to

springs of living water, and God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.”

P This is the Word of the Lord.

C Thanks be to God.

Epistle 1 John 3:1–3 1See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God;

Remembrance of the Faithful Departed

P In joyful expectation of the resurrection to life eternal, we remember before the Lord our

departed family and friends who have gone before us in faith.

[We take a moment to remember those who have died in the faith since the last All Saints’

Day.]

P Almighty God, we remember with thanksgiving those who loved and served You in Your

Church on earth and who now rest from their labors. Keep us in fellowship with all Your

saints, and bring us at last to the joy of Your heavenly kingdom; through Jesus Christ,

Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now

Nicene Creed C I believe in one God,

the Father Almighty,

maker of heaven and earth

and of all things visible and invisible.

And in one Lord Jesus Christ,

the only-begotten Son of God,

begotten of His Father before all worlds,

God of God, Light of Light,

very God of very God,

begotten, not made,

being of one substance with the Father,

by whom all things were made;

who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven

and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the virgin Mary

and was made man;

and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate.

He suffered and was buried.

And the third day He rose again according to the Scriptures

and ascended into heaven

and sits at the right hand of the Father.

And He will come again with glory to judge both the living and the dead,

whose kingdom will have no end.

And I believe in the Holy Spirit,

the Lord and giver of life,

who proceeds from the Father and the Son,

who with the Father and the Son together is worshiped and glorified,

who spoke by the prophets.

And I believe in one holy Christian and apostolic Church,

I acknowledge one Baptism for the remission of sins,

and I look for the resurrection of the dead

and the life T of the world to come. Amen.

“I Will Rise” V1-PC-C-V2-PC-C-B-B-C-E

(Verse 1)

There's a peace I've come to know,

Though my heart and flesh may fail.

There's an anchor for my soul

I can say, "It is well."

(Pre-Chorus) Jesus has overcome

And the grave is overwhelmed;

The victory is won,

He is risen from the dead.

(Chorus)

And I will rise when He calls my name;

No more sorrow, no more pain.

I will rise on eagles' wings;

Before my God fall on my knees,

And rise. I will rise.

(Verse 2) There's a day that's drawing near

When this darkness breaks to light,

And the shadows disappear,

And my faith shall be my eyes.

(Bridge)

And I hear the voice of many angels sing,

"Worthy is the Lamb!"

And I hear the cry of ev'ry longing heart,

"Worthy is the Lamb!"

"Worthy is the Lamb!" (2nd time only)

(Ending) I will rise!

Prayer of the Church Psalm 31:5 P As those who have been made saints by God’s grace through faith in Christ Jesus, let us

come before our Father in heaven in prayer.

P Blessed are the poor in spirit. Lord God, we recognize that we are spiritually poor and

morally bankrupt. Grant us forgiveness for the sake of Jesus. Into Your hand I commit

my spirit;

C You have redeemed me, O Lord, faithful God.

P Blessed are those who mourn. Lord God, we mourn our sin, but we also mourn the wages

that sin brings—death. Give us the comfort that Jesus gives, which will be fully realized

in heaven. Into Your hand I commit my spirit;

C You have redeemed me, O Lord, faithful God.

P Blessed are the meek. Lord God, in humbleness, we come before You, casting off our

pride and arrogance. Bless us with the hope of the new heavens and earth on the Last Day

when we are resurrected. Into Your hand I commit my spirit;

C You have redeemed me, O Lord, faithful God.

P Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness. Lord God, we desire to be

right in Your eyes, and we thank You for Your forgiveness. Do not cast us aside, but

satisfy us with Your salvation. Into Your hand I commit my spirit;

C You have redeemed me, O Lord, faithful God.

P Blessed are the merciful. Lord God, having been shown mercy by You, we are merciful

to others. Work in us appreciation for Your mercy and grace. Into Your hand I commit

my spirit;

C You have redeemed me, O Lord, faithful God.

P Blessed are the pure in heart. Lord God, continue to preserve us from having hearts that

follow after anyone but You. Give us purity of heart so our eyes may be fixed on You

alone. Into Your hand I commit my spirit;

C You have redeemed me, O Lord, faithful God.

P Blessed are the peacemakers. Lord God, use us to be agents of peace in a world

conflicted by sin as we bear witness to the Prince of Peace. Especially bless the

peacemaking efforts of those in civil authority. Into Your hand I commit my spirit;

C You have redeemed me, O Lord, faithful God.

P Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake. Lord God, watch over us

when we are persecuted for following You. Grant us and to all Christians steadfastness of

faith. Into Your hand I commit my spirit;

C You have redeemed me, O Lord, faithful God.

[Special petitions]

P O Lord, into Your hands we commend all for whom we pray, trusting in Your mercy.

C Amen.

SACRAMENT

Communion Confession C In celebrating the Lord's Supper we recognize the Biblical teaching that this is not

merely a representation of Christ, but the real presence of His Body, and His Blood

in the bread and the wine. We also recognize that in the Supper we receive

forgiveness of sins, strength and unity with fellow confessing and communing

Christians.

Communion Directives (If this is also your confession, please come forward and join us for communion. If this is not

your belief about the Holy Supper, we welcome you to come to the altar of the Lord and cross

your arms to receive a blessing. Children that are not confirmed yet are also welcome to come forward for a blessing. If you are not able to come forward please let an usher know

and communion will be brought to you.)

Preface P The Lord be with you.

C And also with you.

P Lift up your hearts.

C We lift them to the Lord.

P Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.

C It is right to give Him thanks and praise.

Prayer of Thanksgiving P Blessed are You, Lord of heaven and earth, for You as our heavenly Father have

promised the rights and privileges that come with belonging to Your family. As beloved

family members, You promise to be with us always and are visibly present among us

today in the body and blood of Your Son for the forgiveness of our sin.

Gathered in the name and the remembrance of Jesus, we beg You, O Lord, to forgive,

renew, and strengthen us with Your Word and Spirit. Grant us faithfully to eat His body

and drink His blood as He bids us do in His own testament. Gather us together, we pray,

from the ends of the earth to celebrate with all the faithful the marriage feast of the Lamb

in His kingdom, which has no end. Graciously receive our prayers; deliver and preserve

us. To You alone, O Father, be all glory, honor, and worship, with the Son and the Holy

Spirit, one God, now and forever.

C Amen.

The Words of Our Lord P Our Lord Jesus Christ, on the night when He was betrayed, took bread, and when He had

given thanks, He broke it and gave it to the disciples and said: “Take, eat; this is My T

body, which is given for you. This do in remembrance of Me.”

P In the same way also He took the cup after supper, and when He had given thanks, He

gave it to them, saying: “Drink of it, all of you; this cup is the new testament in My T

blood, which is shed for you for the forgiveness of sins. This do, as often as you drink it,

in remembrance of Me.”

Proclamation of Christ P As often as we eat this bread and drink this cup, we proclaim the Lord's death until He

comes.

C Amen. Come, Lord Jesus. P O Lord Jesus Christ, only Son of the Father, in giving us Your body and blood to eat and

to drink, You lead us to remember and confess Your holy cross and passion, Your

blessed death, Your rest in the tomb, Your resurrection from the dead, Your ascension

into heaven, and Your coming for the final judgment. So remember us in Your kingdom

and teach us to pray:

Lord's Prayer C Our Father who art in heaven,

hallowed be Thy name,

Thy kingdom come,

Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven;

give us this day our daily bread;

and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us;

and lead us not into temptation,

but deliver us from evil.

For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen.

Pax Domini P The peace of the Lord be with you always.

Closing Song “Better Is One Day” V1-C1-V2-C1-B-C2-C1

(Verse 1) How lovely is Your dwelling place, O Lord Almighty,

For my soul longs and even faints for You. For here my heart is satisfied, within Your presence.

I sing beneath the shadow of Your wings.

(Chorus 1) Better is one day in Your courts Better is one day in Your house Better is one day in Your courts

Than thousands elsewhere Better is one day in Your courts Better is one day in Your house Better is one day in Your courts

Than thousands elsewhere Than thousands elsewhere (1st & 3rd time only)

(Verse 2) One thing I ask and I would seek: to see Your beauty,

To find You in the place Your glory dwells. One thing I ask and I would seek: to see Your beauty,

To find You in the place Your glory dwells.

(Bridge) My heart and flesh cry out

For You, the living God Your Spirit's water to my soul

I've tasted and I've seen Come once again to me I will draw near to You

I will draw near to You, to You

(Chorus 2) Better is one day, better is one day,

Better is one day than thousands elsewhere Better is one day, better is one day,

Better is one day than thousands elsewhere

Announcements GSLC TUESDAY MORNING BIBLE STUDY They are studying One Thousand Gifts by Ann Voskamp. Just like you, Ann Voskamp hungers to live her one life well. Forget the bucket lists that have us escaping our everyday lives for exotic experiences. “How,” Ann wondered, “do we find joy in the midst of deadlines, debt, drama, and daily duties? What does the Christ-life really look like when your days are gritty, long—and sometimes even dark? How is God even here?” In One Thousand Gifts, Ann invites you to embrace everyday blessings and embark on the transformative spiritual discipline of chronicling God's gifts. It’s only in this expressing of gratitude for the life we already have, we discover the life we've always wanted … a life we can take, give thanks for, and break for others. We come to feel and know the impossible right down in our bones: we are wildly loved — by God. Let Ann's beautiful, heart-aching stories of the everyday give you a way of seeing, that opens your eyes to ordinary amazing grace, a way of being present to God that makes you deeply happy, and a way of living that is finally fully alive. Come join us Tuesday Mornings at 9:30AM at the Airey’s Parsonage- 1704 Canyon Run. Study guides and books are available- contact Barbie Airey [email protected]
