All About Voting
Voting happens across Canada in elections, but also inside of Parliament by our
representatives!
Activity: First Past the Post
• It’s time to vote!
• A plurality is the choice that got the largest number of votes
• A majority is more than 50% of all the votes cast
• “First Past the Post” is when candidates win with a plurality of votes
Activity: Who Gets to Vote?
• Who should be allowed to vote? Why?
• Canada’s definition of citizenship has changed over time. Who can vote now that couldn’t before?
• Find your MP on Citizen Factory – would you vote for them?
Activity: Who Gets to Vote?
Even if you can’t vote yet, you can still take action:
• Write a Letter to Your MP• Join a Political Party• Start a petition• Make your voice heard
If you never vote in elections, why would politicians care what you think?
